I actually don’t mind NASCAR. Hell there are about as many lead changes in one NECKCAR race as there are in an entire F1 season. I like F1 for the cars and the atmoshpere but I can do without all the tight ass snobs involved in the sport. Including most of the drivers.
i like watching F1 the best, but i’ve been following Grand American Road Racing Association (Grand-Am CUp Series) its been very ygood racing…this past weekends watiens glenn race was entertaining.
cliffs on what the fuck happened?
seven teams pulled their 14 drivers just before the start of the F1 race @ indy
cause their Michelin tires couldn’t hold up under the speeds the track was producing.
Michelin wanted FIA, to make an exception to the rule by letting the teams change tires but this is agianst the new rule of cars must qualify and race on the same set…the other options was to add a chicane to slow speeds before the turn that was causing the problem.
FIA said no… saying why should the teams with the equipment that can handle it have to suffer?
I heard they could have raced, but it would have had to be @ speeds that were safe for those cars & that wouldn’t have been quick enough to compete so they decided not to race.
in the end only 3 teams (6 drivers) raced Ferrari, Jordan & Minardi.
anyone ever think that it would be cool to watch a race downtown, that when through some of the city, then across bridges to the nothside then back over to the city.
i’d definatley pay to see that. id love to see racing through the city.
Yeah…I’m starting to like NASCAR more and more…I went to a few Daytona 500s recently and all of the races are exciting (truck, IROC, Busch, etc)…so much more passing and strategy. I’m still an open wheel fan at heart though. I love technology involved and there’s nothing like hearing a F1 car fly by at 19K+ rpms!!! I went to the first two USGPs at Indy and loved them both. I really hope F1 continues to be in the U.S. somewhere for years to come. It’s nice having it at Indy but I wouldn’t mind seeing it at someplace like the Glen either…the Indy track is too tight in some places for F1 cars, IMO.
With regards to this past USGP, I think there was a lot more going on behind the scenes which led to the Michelin Teams pulling out…there are a lot of Teams/manufacturers that not happy with the FIA and Max Mosley…there has been talk of many teams pulling out of F1 and starting a new open wheel series by 2008…just like what happened to Indy cars in the late 90s …I hope it doesn’t happen.
The blame can be thrown at several people or organizations but there really should of been a solution for the fans sake…fans are what make the sport and too many people involved with F1 only think about themselves and nothing else which is only good to a certain point…NASCAR would of found a way to race.
Team Minardi’s account of what happened
Keep in mind that Minardi chief, Paul Stoddart has had a pretty rocky relationship with the FIA in recent years which, I’m sure, reflects in the overall tone of the article…
that was a pretty good article. I would like to hear the other side and what exactly happenend. I have never followed this racing but this is pretty interesting.
