Fall Fishing

I really like the action of that rod I wish they made it in two piece.

Also where you there Saturday or Sunday? I was down there Sunday it was ultra slow.

I was there Sat and Sun. Saturday i landed 3,Sunday 3, a friend landed a walleye and a rainbow. I like the action of that rod alots, but 3 piece is a PIA. I’m only 5’7" and found that 13’6 rod is kinda not for me especially when the guides are icing up. I have to lay it down on the ground and get the ice out. Also I can not land the fish without a long net or another person helping me.

The water is about 2-3 feet of visibility. Kinda rocky and flow a bit faster than normal, plus the charters are not helping either. Once the charters moved in, there is no way I can fish.

I just got back. I got nada. Brought my pin and a spinning outfit. Tried 4 different jigs and a bead on the pin. A DEC survey guy was there and said a shore angler down past me landed a sucker. I saw 2 steelhead in the boats. Water was crystal clear. I am jinxed at that place lol. Took me 12 minutes to walk from my spot back to my truck. I took the road down.

Maybe next time I give a holla and take you to my spot  Also I found out they are very aggressive early in the morning about 6AM till like 9AM, then the bite stop. Then it started again around 2-5PM. It’s like first cast or second cast you will hooked a fish right away. It happened every single time.

I was at your spot lol. I watched your video and was standing on the same rock. That is a nice spot, has a nice eddy right there. I am free mon-fri. On weekends I have to fish with the old lady.

LOL! Yeah I gave it away in my video. If you know the area then you can easily find out. How do you rig your float?

I have a fixed float. I adjust it between 6’-10’ depth. Mainline is 8lb floating mono to a tiny swivel and then 3 feet of 6lb flouro. I run tiny dark olive splitshot down by the jig or bead. I’ll run regular tin split shot up near the float, but near the jig I try to run as few as possible and always the dark ones so they aren’t as visible.

Your rig is almost like mine! I use a 15g float and use stagger shot pattern( BB SIZE) then micro swivel and 2-3’ of fluoro. I put 2 tiny split shots below my swivel. The last shot is about 12-16" above the jig.

Do you fish the heavier currents down there or is you spot in slower water? I tend to fish 1oz-1.25oz (28g-35g) slip floats. Other then this last weekend I have done ok down there averaging 3-6 fish per outing.

Slower current! All steelhead and rainbows. You rarely catch a laker there. I also use slip float, but once freezing starts, I switch to a fixed float.

I went 2 for 6 today. The ones I landed were 20" and 24.5". Nothing huge but good fighters. I did lose one about 26" or so. It’s hard for me to net them sometimes. I fumbled with the net trying to land them, and I have to ease them in just right. Bumps me up a tiny bit on the steelhead contest, but i’m still way back. The leading fish is now 33", which is a bruiser!

where at?

Nice fish! I wish that contest was Erie tribs also.

I got them at Keg creek. He won’t open it up to Erie tribs. He isn’t making any money from doing this tournament. The idea was to have the tournament in areas near his shop, so people would stop there before heading out to fish. I try to stop in there from time to time when I am out that way. I like to support the local shops rather than Dick’s, or Cabela’s.

That’s understandable. Colville should have one for Erie tribs. That would be awesome.

The ASB shop is sweet if you’ve never been there. I stopped in today and got some jigs. You’ve never seen so many jigs in your life until you’ve been there lol. Same with beads. As I was checking out, the owner (Greg) reached behind him and handed me a sweet hand-tied pink marabou jig. He’s going to have a few more contests coming up. One is a bullhead contest (yuck), the other is maybe a salmon contest, not really sure.

Here’s some of the jigs:

Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I’m seriously going to have to check that out sometime.

Nice fish Joe! Wow!! I thought Colville was good, but this shop is crazy! I just started to tied my own jigs today. These are my first 4 jigs. http://www.nyspeed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36250&stc=1http://www.nyspeed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36251&stc=1http://www.nyspeed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36252&stc=1http://www.nyspeed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36253&stc=1

Those look great. Did you buy a starter kit? I recently purchased some marabou jigs, and the marabou just clumps together in the water. I don’t know if they use poor quality materials or what. But I’ve been looking into making my own recently. Did it take you long to get the hang of it?
