So I was stuck in traffic the other day and my clutch has LOTS of grip. I came to a complete stop, engaged in 1st and quickly let go. As usual, I felt the sudden clamping force of the clutch. As the car jerked, I heard this sound coming from under the hood. By this time, I felt the car shaking. I quickly pulled into the nearest parking lot, turned off the car and popped the hood. When I peeked inside, I found that my Flex-a-Lite fan had most of its fins ripped off which severely damaged the radiator, resulting a massive coolant leak. The thing is, I’m running the fan off a manual on/off swtich from inside the cabin.
Long story short, I got it towed and now I have to replace the rad and the fan. Since I know the SR creates lots of heat, I thought it would be in the best interest to invest in more efficient cooling elements. So I guess I’m going to use the Altima fan with either OEM Sr20DET rad or rebuilt the punctured one.
since I’m re-doing the cooling system, I mite as well have the fan wired back to the thermostat (is that where it’s originally controlled?)
My question is, where can I find the wiring/electrical diagrams for the fan control switch and all the stuff needed to have the fan turn on automatically?

ANYONE!?!?
be patient jesus.
less than 24 hrs and you have probly viewed your thread more than anyone else.

If you can’t find a thermostat/temperature activated switch, just throw in a manual switch.
10 easy steps to wiring a fan:
- Disconnect -ve on battery
- Mount fan
- Find the +ve and -ve wires on the fan
- Connect the -ve wire to a clean ground source (-ve on battery is fine)
- Run a wire from the +ve on battery to your cockpit.
- Run a wire from the +ve on fan to your cockpit
- Put a (heavy duty) switch between the two wires mentioned in step 5 and 6
- Test it out
- ???
- Profit
Im sure several people here will complain about not using relays and
fuses and what not.
in my post, I said that I wired a manual on/off switch but I want to go back to the original form where the thermostat controls the fan…I looked up the FSM for the CA18DET and I’m confused. So if anyone can jus point me to the right direction in showing me where the fan wires run to, that would be appreciated
a thermostatic switch either closes the contact past a certain degree or opens the contact, it’s just a switch, wire it in the same way, except that you need to use a relay as they aren’t high current generally
