Fashion thread: Dress shirts/suits

$3400 usd for a pair of used cashmere sweat pants from Loro Piana… awesome…

some of you guys may have seen my pics on FB; i got my first shirt back from Bureau on elmwood.

some of the cool options; I picked monograms on the right cuff and inside the collar, nice mother of pearl buttons in a dark grey, white stitching for the button holes, white stitching around the rest of the shirt, red stitching for the buttons.

i’ll probably release the darts in the back to give myself an extra cm or two for when im sitting down. I’d also add an inch or so of length to make it tuck easier.

Other than that, i’m quite happy with the finished product. We’re going to see if they can do a top coat next.

Shirt is excellent! If live to pick up a few myself

For @bing - your shirts will last longer:

$500 - uses a scented solution and a heater to remove odors and light wrinkles from clothes. It can cut your dry cleaning costs and preserve your clothes from the wear and tear of washing.

So am I a poor douchebag for picking up 3 of the Jos A Banks shirts today on sale?

They always fit great on me and seem to last.

Carry on…

I couldn’t find a suit jacket that fit at all today. Even the ones with supposedly longer sleeves were 4" above my wrists. Im not fat enough to shop at Casual Male and Men’s Wearhouse has ridiculous prices. I sure as fuck am not paying $400 for a fucking suit jacket that didn’t even fit good anyway and that was a cheap one there.

drop in to Bureau?

i have my second shirt waiting to be picked up probably on thursday.

Get it tailored.

Bought two suits at Brooks Brothers and took them straight to the tailor. Two suits was under $500 + 120 for the tailoring.

Also, if you are a AAA member, show your card at the info desk in the Outlet Mall and you get a discount card to be used at a good amount of the stores. The discounts vary per store, but I saved 15% at Brooks Brothers.

He’s in Albany Bing. But there is probably a place around his area that sells made to measure stuff. Might even be cheaper than $400, but who knows about the build time.

The thing is I needed it last night with no bullshit for today. Last minute but that’s how it had to be. I decided just to wear dress pants and a shirt because I was unable to get anything that fit.

Men’s Wearhouse is one of the few places that do tailoring at the store and theyre expensive as fuck.

I mean check tailors in your area, like I said, it cost me $120 to have two suit coats taken in and two suit pants hemmed. Not a bad price if you ask me.

But that’s making them smaller. I had an issue with the sleeves being 4" too short.
The jacket isn’t going to grow.

get a couple staple jackets made now so you dont run into this issue in the future.

your jacket sleeve can be shorter than your wrist line as long as the shirt underneath fits properly… an inch to 1.5" of sleeve creep is totally cool. in fact, i find i want to take many of my sleeves back a bit to ensure that the shirt sleeve creeps an inch

I absolutely hate it when my shirt sticks out past my jacket. I was planning on wearing short sleeves underneath because its July and its warm.

Getting jackets wasn’t supposed to be a priority because I would only wear them to weddings and a funeral. Unfortunately this isn’t a wedding either.

I can’t stand short sleeve dress shirts. I’d rather roll up long sleeves. Most of the time you want the dress shirt to peek out of the sleeve a bit. I think bing would like the one suit I purchased.

nah man, your shirt is supposed to come past the jacket sleeve… not way too much but just a bit. it’s desirable in fact. if you have a contrasting colored shirt is helps break up the monotony of colour from a solid colour suit. if you’re wearing black jacket and pants you’re just a big blob of black unless you can break it up with other subtle cues… pocket square, shirt sleeve past the jacket, shirt & tie etc.

if you’re wearing black belt and black shoes with a black suit it’s even more important to break things up a little…

See this guide for some info:

Anyone ever end up getting a suit from Bureau?

i didnt… asked about a winter jacket but they couldnt do the collar i wanted. basically brought in my winter jacket which is CK and asked if they could redo it with a few things but they are limited to what they can do.

i think you would do well to try a suit there though.
