she was ejected from the car, which is obviously not a normal thing to have happen with a car like this. its a profesionaly built car witch unboudtably has the highest quality parts… to be thrown from it during a crash shows catastophic parts failure of some sort.
the comment can simply be a “this is why she was ejected” kind of comment
but, you could also be right on the lawyer comment, and if the seatbelt proves to have been defective due to something the MFG should have caught then i say they have every right to sue
if the seatbelt failed due to operator error, or improper parts selecton / installation, then there shouldnt be a lawsuit. the proper action would be a review of the rulebook to see if theres anything that can be changed to minimaze the chances of a repat of this tragedy
Speaking of lawyer talk, one of the articles mentioned that the insurance only covered drivers 18 and over (some kind of mandatory thing). Since she was 17, the insurance companies and lawyers may try to screw the family.
I was there as well, and saw the horrible fireball from the crash. It looked like one of her chutes did not deploy, possibly causing her to swerve into the wall @306 mph. This really hit home as my daughter is 16 and will be racing next year.
agreed, but im also not trying to say “that SHOULD have held” just saying despite the forces at work, its rather odd to actualy hear that someone was THROWN from a car during a wreck
it was an exhibition run , exhibition runs are for vehicals that dont fit inside the rules, and thast why its a single car running the track at that time
a few years ago, Tv tom ivo did an exhibition run in his “Wagonmaster” exhibition car … THAT car didnt meet IHRA / NHRA rules either, and the car was run down the CENTER of the track, because it was incapable of running properly on the burn outs that were imprinted in the track
how is everybody overlooking 1 simple fact about the seatbelts. 300mph to 0mph in 0seconds can crush/collapse a persons shoulders, hence, a driver being thrown out of the cockpit
the vehical rolled after impact , therefore it didnt do 300-0 in a 1/10 of a second . more like 300-200 in a 1/10 of a second, including the deceleration caused by her chute
and she was thrown from the vehical because the belt failed, not because her shoulders collapsed
