Ferrets??

Anyone have one/two of these guys as pets?

My GF has expressed interest in getting a pair and I’ve kinda always thought of it.

Wondering if anyone has any experience/advise?

Choko should have input.

they kinda smell…but they are funny as hell when they run/flop around/ make themselves look like idiots lol never had one as my own tho so thats about all i can say

they can have the musk glands removed, which eliminates alot of the smell, but not nec all of it.

they are intelligent, and therefore entertaining little guys.

they are social animals, they need a buddy… or alot of human attention. They will actually suffer health problems if left alone in a cage all day, all the time.

they are super inquisitive when running around the house… so much so that they often can be injured (climbing & falling, or getting pinched / trapped). Also, be sure to “secure” poisons with child safety latchs on the cabinets, or likewise.

Little sister has been wanting a pair, We’ve been reading up on them, talking to the pet stores, and the vet.

matter of fact, there are 3-4 of them at Markheims on Sheridan, east of Niag Falls Blvd… as of this past Sat.

the ex had one, it didnt really smell at all, was fun as shit, and would steal everything and hide it under her bed.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and talking as well, just figured I’d talk on here as well and see what personal experiences people have.

I’ve heard the lonely/depressed if they’re not in pairs and/or don’t receive enough attention from people.

I’ve also heard they typically take to having baths at regular intervals which combats the odor even more (combined with the musk glands).

they are finiky (sp?) eaters as well.

I have 2, they’re awesome pets. if you 2 want to come check them out some night feel free. they’re not an inexpensive pet, that’s for sure. they eat an absolute ton. you HAVE to buy the top brand food, or yo’ll have sick ferrets in no time. we got one from a couple that fed him cheap food, i had a 220 dollar vet bill 2 days later. but you’re more than welcome to come see ours, we’ll show you our setup and i’ve even got a few things we don’t use if you want them, like litter pan, etc. oh yeah, never buy a girl!

There’s actually a pair (male/female) that have come up for adoption that I was thinking about.

Why the “never buy a girl?” comment?

They have 2 at Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware in North Buffalo.

My sister had one, it was fun. I remember that as soon as they started backing their ass up in a corner, they were going to take a shit. They eventually got theirs trained.
