Finally made the jump over to Fios! Took the 50/50 plan @ $65.97 per month. Beats my 20/2 through TW for $75 per month. Now I have to wait a week for my install.
You just cannot beat Fios. Love me some Fios!
I made the decision after I was playing madden on my XBone this weekend and it lagged on a kickoff. The kick went 5 yards and it was returned for a TD. FUUUUUUUU TW!!!
Mmmmm… bandwidth…
That’s a lot of Jennifer Lawrence pics.
Finally made the jump!
I just bought a house that has FiOS and I was just wondering for the people that have fios if its possible to not buy their $200 modem/router and just use their $75 range extender? I dont know if the extender converts the signal from the coax to where I can just use that probably not i am guessing.
I was looking at MoCA to Ethernet adapters and they cost about $80 but then I need a wireless router too and at that point its almost the same price. I would be using internet only, no tv
I am just trying to see if I can avoid buying their router and get something cheaper, any suggestions?
If you’re not going to be getting TV service from them just have them enable the RJ-45 ethernet port on the ONT and run what ever wireless router you’d like. That’s what I’m doing at my house and it’s been flawless gigabit lan/wireless N for years as opposed to the buggy Actiontec they provided. In my case the key was going into the Fios router and releasing the DHCP lease first though in your case I’m going to assume that IP has been released since the previous owner’s router has been disconnected for so long. Either way it will involve a call to tech support and likely a request to at least level 2. I got lucky and got a pretty knowledgeable tech when I called and it was a 2 minute call to get the port on the ONT enabled.
I was reading about that too, did they give you a hard time about enabling it and hooking up a cable to it?
Nope, 2 minute phone call.
Me: “I’d like to enable ethernet on my ONT”
Him: “Ok…You know none of the on demand stuff or guide will work once you do this right?”
Me: “Yep, I don’t use any of that”.
Him: “Did you release the DHCP lease on the Actiontec”
Me: “Yep”
Him: “Please hold”. 2 minutes later “Ok, that’s been enabled. It should start working in the next 30 minutes or so”.
5 minutes later my router pulled the DHCP address and I haven’t touched it since. Reading on the forums it sounds like it’s hit or miss if you get someone who knows what the hell you’re asking them to do though. If you get an idiot just be polite and ask for a supervisor.
I think I will give that a try then. The previous owners just moved out a few days ago so I dont believe the router has been disconnected that long maybe a week at most I would say, so the IP may not have been released
I’m sure Verizon can force the IP release.
