Fios Questions

I have 75/50 Quantum something, something Fios internet and Netflix can barely stream fluidly. Verizon has been throttling Netflix streaming for months now. It’s absolutely bullshit and I hope that Netflix really jumps into this peer-to-peer streaming process they are talking about.

Verizon would prefer that Netflix and other streaming service users pay more for the amount of data they use.

Pretty sure you can stop this with a vpn, for about 8 bucks a month.

It’s kind of more complicated however…that will work fine if you’re watching netflix from a PC but doing so from a TV would be a pain.

At some point this will all get worked out either the FCC will tell cable companies to fuck off and stop doing it or netflix will be forced to pay more for bandwidth and those costs will get pushed onto the consumers.

you can do it with a dd-wrt router, it will allow all devices to use the vpn.

Yea so my secondary concern is a lot of the VPN providers are very sketchy and im not sure how I feel about them getting the rest of my traffic.

It wouldn’t be that hard to setup routing specific for netflix but still annoying

I’ve had TWC for years. Hell, we’ve had cable since 1985 with Adelphia.

I will be honest in saying that I have always thought my service sucked, the internet was slow and was always cutting in and out. Out in Eden, our only choice is TWC. In January I got rid of the TWC phone service, gave them back their HORRIBLE DOCSIS 2 Arris eMTA. I started looking at the cabling done by the TWC tech years ago… what a hack. I never thought much of the cabling, I mean it is their job. There was RG59 where RG6 quad should have been. I re-ran new RG6 quad with a brand new splitter giving the modem priority, bought a Motorola SB6141, bought a used SonicWall TZ170 off of eBay and bought an Ooma for home phone.

To this day, I am still impressed on how well my internet works. I cannot stress how important good equipment is.

After dropping the phone and their modem rental, they raised my bill from about $140 to $165. I called last week and said how I would like my bill lowered, and how new TWC customers can receive low rates but I’m paying a high bill each month. I was presented with many options including waiving the HD box fee each month, or a customer loyalty discount of $18 spread across six months. I rejected all of that and said how I ALWAYS pay my bill on time and how I’ve been a customer with Adelphia since 1985, and then with Time Warner since they took over. I said “I need this bill to be around $120 a month, the rate now is just too much”. The girl came back to the phone and said “Sir, how about $126 per month for a year?” I took that offer. For that rate, I have 15x1 internet, two HD boxes, Preferred Cable TV and a TV channel package that used to have Speed network. Things work the way they should and I’m happy. On SpeedTest I pull 16 down and 1 up all day long with about 25-35ms ping.

OUch^

I pay ~$110 for 50/25 one HD box with 215+HD channels. Wait 'til Comcast takes over.

I wish there was FIOS in my area, though I really am not a fan of signing a contract for the services

They just announced a free upgrade to make all connections symmetrical. Sign up for their My Rewards+ Program to jump to the front of the line. Looks like I’m pulling 75/75 now :tspry:

Results from my 50/50 connection:

50/50 connection but Netflix still buffers. Going to check mine when I get home.

Yep, Verizon and Netflix are still having their little war. That’s fine Verizon, I’ll just keep downloading everything.

Stats from sabnzbd:
14.7GB today, 135.1GB this month, 9.7TB total downloaded.

Re: Netflix…

Not bad.
