Firestone tires = T-down

So i picked up some Firestone Firehawk SZ50’s last year, used a pair on the rear and replaced them very recently with the other pair.

I put them on the car 2 weekends ago, maybe 1800k’s on them thus far… i drive a lot.

Last night coming home from toronto at 2:30am coming through Grimsby on the QEW this happens (pictures from this afternoon)

tire was located on the rear passenger side, no rubbing.

The wheel was fine though even though i drove 1-2km’s to the next exit for CAA.

just awesome

btw, these tires are Z rated, so they should have been able to take 200kph+ with ease no?

the tire’s that haggered cuz you drove on it after it was flat… any tire will do that

what originally caused it to go flat? catch a nail or something like that?

hmmm, yeah i suppose that would make it more haggard.

i dont think i did catch a nail to be honest. I didnt hear or feel anything until the rubber started flying. At the time it happened i was not travelling too fast, it was about 3-4 minutes after i was speeding, i assumed it was related because the car felt squirrlier than usual

damn. at least it didnt blow out and cause you to go into a spiral of death.

has nothing to do with the tire dude.

glad you weren’t going fast when it happened…

you hit something and the tire went flat

i did the same thing with my s10 … i didnt realize the rear tire was flat till i heard the rim catch pavement after the tire shredded … in my case the tire was flat but would get under the rim edge and support it off the road

then the sidewall finaly cut all the way through and i heard alum on tarmac

i later found a rather large gash in the sidewall that spanned a few of the splits caused by driving on it while flat … so i assume i hit some sheet metal on the road

what were your tire pressures at?

That is a run flat tire. Tell me you did not put a run flat tire on a vehicle not equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system?

I have run flats on my bike:gotme: J/K, but make sure you check the pressure often, with lower profile tires, its almost seems harder to “tell” by eye. If your a little low the tire will heat up way quicker, and if you were speeding with low air pressure the tire may have broke down due to excessive heat… Glad to hear you and your car are ok though!! Now get something more sticky for her!
