broaching, it was broaching.
judging by the grain structure, i think the STi gears are sintered.
Shit works fucking perfect.
I put 80W-90 in it instead of 75W-90 and it shifts better than it ever did.
I also made sure that the reverse lockout worked 100%.
Wassaaaaaaaaaa
Very cool DIY fix.
So now what are you going to blow all that money on?
congrats man
I’m going to leave it in the savings where it belongs.
That is pretty awesome. Thats good you decided to take it apart before you replaced it.I did not read all 43949 pages. Do you know what cause the gears to do that. You drive it hard yet?
only one gear did. Reverse. It’s because instead of shifting into 6th the reverse lockout wasn’t connected properly and allowed me to TRY to shift into reverse. It didn’t engage, but just ground and put burs on the reverse gear baulk ring. The reverse synchro is pretty burned, but IDK why reverse even has a synchro… probably for rally. It works great and i drove it hard already. It shifts like butter.
good job man
nice work
right, but what I meant was that was what you were trying to do and I couldn’t remember the process name.
ah, word. We actually have a broaching setup at work for cutting internal keyways.
Feels awesome when you fix something and it works better then it did before, good job.
