I don’t have a problem with the technology but I have problem with the fact that the technology advanced WAY faster than the government could put rails on it. I’ve seen Flock in action in stolen vehicle, child abduction, and missing vulnerable adult cases. It’s amazing how quickly it can find a vehicle and even show you direction it’s heading based on which cameras it continues to drive past. Unfortunately I’ve also seen it be used by a detective to stalk his ex, and saw it used to to arrest an innocent person simply on a matching car description and bad read on a license plate.
But saying, “ban flock because it might be abused” is like saying, “Ban wiretaps, or searching someone’s home” because they might be abused. Put protections in place so it isn’t abused.
And there’s no reason you can’t pass a law making access to flock data the same.
Bottom line, it’s an incredibly powerful tool for stopping crime, so I’ll never agree with all these people screaming we need to ban it. It does however need a lot of safeguards in place, which the recent abuses have shown are grossly lacking.
