UGH, I hate flys!
So I moved into this house that was unoccupied for 2-3 years. For about 6months I was constantly killing “silver fish”, spiders and little bugs. I guess while noone was present they began to take over. NOT TO MENTION BEES IN WALLS.
Anyways, The one bug I cant shake are flys. Im talking normal flys that land on dog $hit. Ill come home and EVRYDAY theres atleast 1-2 flys for me to kill. DONT GET ME WRONG, its kinda fun killing them with a fly swatter from Harbor Frieght thats powered by 2 D size batterys and there bodies stop moving with one touch. But last night was the last straw!
I got home, wife making pasta, I put my stuff down and look up at the kitchens recessed lights. There 3 flys hanging out on the ceiling near the light. I grab the swatter and swing, 2 die and fall while the other goes up into the light. Now im thinking WTF, are they living up there? The canester is the air tight model so they cant sneak out…or can they. Well he doesnt come out. I leave, get dressed. Here the “dinners done call” come down stairs and they he is sitting on the edge of my bowl of pasta. I was so pissed I chased him for every till I got him.
I went into the attic to look to see if there was some huge fly apartment complex up there, but didnt see anything.
Do flys make nests?
Will a bug bomb that fills the house with smoke do the trick?
Let winter take its course and hope they are gone in the spring?
Remember, larva of flies are maggots, check to see if any dead animals (ie. rats/mice ect.) are not decomposing under the house or within the walls, also check to see if there are inlets that they might possibly be entering from, attic, basement, door/windows.
+1. If you have that many flies consistently in the house and you’re good about closing doors/windows and keeping your screens in good shape you have maggots feeding on something somewhere inside your house.
When I was in the attic i found dried crap…bigger then mouse terds but almost like a small animal. I cleaned all that out. If something was decomposing and there were maggots…IT WOULD SMEEEEEEEEELL. I think…think I would smell it.
My parents had a frog that was dead in their backyard once. I went to move it and noticed the skin moving around like it was doing a belly dance. Got closer to see it better when i almost tossed my lunch. I moved it with a stick and it split open, bunch of maggots fell out.
If their was something like that happening in my attic…maybe under insulation maybe i wouldnt smell it.
Would a bug bomb up there in the attic do anything?
IF there was a dead animal up there…EVENTUALLY the flys would go away right
what the layout of your apt like? is it a duplex, condo, double, etc. it might be easier to know where the flies might be coming from etc. Do you leave food out alot?
This time of year the flys definately come inside and it sucks but, I don’t know why you have them all of the time. I had a ton last year(new house maybe?) but not bad yet this year.
call an exterminator to spray the basement and outside of the house to start. fly sticky things in the attic and couple in the house, continue to spray during winter maybe twice, that should take care of your infestation.
I’d Bomb the thing… I’ve done it to a few houses before and it works pretty damn good. You’ve got to seal up the outside afterwards though to prevent them from coming back in.
Just be careful going back into the house afterwards… I was down in my basement trying to open all the windows down there to vent everything out… couldn’t hold my breath long enough and got myself sick for a good hour or two puking and feeling like shit…
Our house sat empty for a year and since we moved in this summer we’re having a serious fly problem as well…but more like 6+ flies in the house at any given time. I searched the attic and as far as I can see (and smell) there’s nothing up there. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE and cannot figure it out.
Serious fruit fly problem as well, even with no food whatsoever sitting out.
After a while, it seriously takes a toll on your mental health.
