sad to hear how accidents can happen just like that. let’s hope that everyone on the board here thinks twice before pushing a car to its limits, even tho most of us aren’t driving 500hp cars, but as stated before, any speed can be dangerous, just all depends on the situation. if your looking to drive over the speed limit and not on valid roads, throw on some safety gear and head to the track.
thank you…that was the purpose of me posting this…get through to one person…
agreed…but the issue was how they got there…
That is some messed up shit… its 50/50 fault between him and his parents no kid thats 18 should be in a 500hp car without a professional with them or they gotta be on a track using common sense. Either way I doubt he deserved it and hope alot of people learn from this situation I know I have.
WTF? Sure the are Petey. What kind of mindless asshole tosses the keys to a 500hp FR car over to some kid that was babbling on the forums about how safe he is, who can’t even read the manual to know how to bypass the electronics.
You just have to assume your kid is going to do something retarded, you try not to enable it.
Either way, they are to blame now according to the lawyers.
Parents are not to be blame!!! the kid is 18yrs old he knows right from wrong, atleast he did go on the air stripe and not on the road. Sad he took his friends with him, you never know his friends could have been the ones to ask him to test the car on the air stripe. You guys remember the two kids that were racing on Mount Plasant rd and kill the cab driver? I remember I took my dad Audi out a night around 2am when I was 16yrs. Not the smartest thing I did. But long story short my parents did not know I took the car out.
My parents have a saying, friends will carry you, but not bring you back!!!
:picard2: thats so sad!! its kinda scary!! i was reading through, and someone said to parents, to think again when u give your teen YOUR powerful car, and to talk the them about the dangers and what not!!
he was 18…he’s an adult…
plus…can you imagine how the parents feel? they know they are partially at fault…not just for the death of their own son…but for 4 other parent’s kids…I can’t imagine what they’re going through…
no they arent completely responsible…but…yeah…wasn’t the smartest move ever…apparently it was a birthday or some celebration…maybe he was allowed to have the car for the night? who knows…we canonly speculate…
^^^ How is the parents at fault or partially at fault. He is 18yrs old, old enough to join the army and defend his country. I could see how it played out, he got to borrow the car beacuse it was his b-day, he pick up some of his friends to show off, one of them memtion about going to the air strip and test the M5 out!!!
I searched and have not seen anywhere that the parents did or didnt consent to him driving the car. If they did, I agree with you Dave they are to blame but if he simply took the car without them knowing then how can they be blamed?
I dont think we will ever find out though.
Was it really an M5 or was it an Mtree?
oh man…
X2
the parents are not to blame. the kid made a mistake and it cost 4 lives + his own. its horrible mistake he made, but its his mistake alone.
we have all done stupid shit at one time or an other. when i look back at some of the crap i have done on the road back in the day, i should probably be dead.
like one of the guys off those M5 forums said…
Fools Learn from their Mistakes, but
The Wise Learn from others Mistakes.
RIP
& my condolences to the Families/Communities Impacted.
It truly is a shame… but you gotta remember, a beamer is a safe car, may be overpowered for alot but when daddy a lawyer father is reading the brochure hes prob looking at how many cup holders are in it not the HP (its the names hes paying for) and the kid was messing with the controls that keep the car in control, if he hadnt of started playing with it then he may of lived… i doubt this was his first run, he mentioned going at 180 in a previous run…
i just think it also shows that tuning and disabling SAFTEY features(such as the skid control) is stupid unless you have the experiance requred to control the car… and RWD is diffrent from FWD in a big way we all know… my first drive i was used to FWD, hoped the gas around corners and you maybe got a sqwak and that was it. did it in RWD and the car was facing east when i originally was turning west…
Its a shame… i dont blame the parents at all… i was raised in a very reserved enviroment and im far from it… i do blame the kids though, you know the gang mentality “top it out man” “i dont know man, im new to this” “just do it, lets see how fast this baby goes” “alright… hold on guys”
wow thats some serious shit guys some ppl just need to think before acting, i mean if your going to be stupid do it alone, but taking 4 friends with, not right ppl need to stop taking life for granted its not there to fuck with! the quicker ppl figure this out the better i hope this helps with maybe the actions of some of the others on this forum if you want to be stupid and have fun at least do it in a controlled enviroment i.e a track were theres help right away and your safe , not on the open road . let this be a lesson that others should take and use BE SAFE OUT THERE your not the professional driver you think you are. remember there are others on the road in fornt and in behind and on both sides of you dont screw up them because you want to see how fast you can drive. be safe.think.act responsibly.
it happens quite often, what are you getting at?
he guys, don’t drive beyond your limits or the cars limits, and live to tell your mom you love her.
KITCHENER RECORD
Man killed in two-car crash in Waterloo
Deadly crossover on Conestoga Parkway
KAREN KAWAWADA
WATERLOO (May 15, 2006)
A 29-year-old Kitchener man is dead after a crash yesterday afternoon that left two cars crumpled on the Conestoga Parkway.
Shortly after 5 p.m., the man lost control of his sports car in the northbound lanes, crossed the central median and into the path of a southbound Pontiac Sunfire.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Const. Mike Ball of the OPP.
A mother and daughter in the Pontiac were taken to Grand River Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An air ambulance was initially called but cancelled.
Alex Panzalovic, 20, was driving southbound when he saw a grey Dodge Viper coming off the Bridgeport Road ramp in the northbound lanes.
Initially, the driver was in the right-hand lane, but may have attempted to change lanes, or may simply have accelerated too fast, the Kitchener man speculated.
“He was probably going 120 (kilometres an hour). With those cars, it takes about half a second to go 120,” said Panzalovic, who works for a car company.
The driver started to skid and went into the grassy median, which is about 10 metres wide and dips down in the middle. As it shot out the other side, Panzalovic saw it fly about a metre and a half into the air and spin. He was about 50 metres back – too far to see the Pontiac. But he figures the driver of that car didn’t have time to stop.
“There were parts of car flying everywhere.”
The Pontiac hit the driver’s side of the Viper.
When Panzalovic stopped his car and ran up to the Viper, the windows were broken and the door was so smashed in. It was “gone,” he said.
Panzalovic reached in and lifted the wrist of the man in the car, a man he took to be about his age.
He found no pulse and called 911.
Panzalovic and his friend Igor Prelic then directed traffic until police arrived.
A large crowd developed as traffic in the southbound lanes was forced to stop and drivers walked over to see what was going on.
Firefighters removed the roof from the Viper to try to help the driver, but it was too late, said Platoon Chief Chris Collins of the Waterloo Fire Department.
They later extricated him and the coroner pronounced him dead.
Police closed the entire highway from Bridgeport Road to University Avenue for several hours as they investigated.
It was necessary to close both the northbound and southbound lanes because it was a crossover crash, said Ball.
The car left deep diagonal ruts in the median and skid marks in the left northbound lane.
It doesn’t look like alcohol was a factor, said Ball.
The identity of the victim hasn’t been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Cambridge detachment of the OPP at 654-0150.
I can’t see the parent’s being at fault. It was a special night, he prolly begged and pleaded to get the M5. I know if my folks had an M5, and they didn’t let me take it out on a big occasion, I’d think they’re douches. Shit happens. Kid made a really bad judgement call, and that’s all there is to it.
Just sticky this for the next time some 16 year old gets a 240 and wants boost it right away.
You took the words right out of my mount.
How could some of you guys say, blame the parents!!! the kid is 18yrs old he is a young adult. We all know his friends wanted him to push the car.
I have watch some of the Top gear video where they test top speed on a roadway, they have a sign or marker telling them when to start slowing down, or they will end up like the kid and his friends.
I think he miss judge the braking point and could not stop in time.
Rest in Peace.
After some thought, I’m inclined to agree. he’s 18…he’s an adult…
having said that, the car did pbelong to his parents and I can only imagine the guilt they feel.
As for fooling with settings…the car traveled 200 feet, and was still 15 feet off the ground! that’s over 3500 lbs hurtling through the air for over 200 feet! If there’s a saftey system that prevents that I want it…lol
It was dark, he was probably travelling in excess of 180 mph…no headlight will keep up with that…and he ran out of runway…you can;t fault the car, the parents, or anyone but him for that…
