for those that defend buffalo (best designed city video)

Because the Harbor Center won’t be a year round establishment bringing hockey players from all around the world to the city to play hockey, stay in our hotels, frequent our restaurants and open Buffalo up to the rest of the world…

I deff shit talk the suburbs. haha but i really mostly stay to the camp of not saying anything at all.

You mean a bunch of people coming from the suburbs to play hockey in the city?

My point was if you’re going to fix a city you need make it a place people can live/work/eat.

LZ, you should purchase one of the new Halloween/orange Defend Buffalo Tee’s! Would go well with your hair/skin complexion.

<3

It’s too bad they denied the green, white, and red one surrounded by a gold chain design you submitted.

It was only denied because it was a deep v-neck, Scott hates them.

LMAO

really dude? are you really that blind to what construction there is right now?

500,000 sqft world class gvi specializing in cadio vascular with the upper ctrc in cancer research that was recently completed, the 450,000 sqft women and children’s hospital that is groundbreaking very soon right next door, plus the mob that is currently under construction. plus all the other buildings currently in planning and under construction in the medical corridor. yeah, those wont have any year round jobs.

how about all the other construction projects currently going on or all the renovation projects currently going on? how about the major projects with both ub and buff state? canisus college? right now there is a major push to cut down timelines for getting construction documents out to bid to try and get in before other projects due to how much construction is going on right now as the earlier bids will be bid at a lower cost than later ones.

and that is just barely touching on what is happening in healthcare and educational fields.

I am not from Buffalo and almost declined a job here because of the stigma and negative things I had heard about it. Fortunately a few friends who grew up here that did support the city, talked me into giving it a chance. I think this is why people who love Buffalo, are so passionate about defending it. Buffalo has gained a pretty bad reputation in its fall from grace, so much so that a lot of people in surrounding suburbs have tried to disassociate themselves from it. But since moving here I have grown to love it, and have become a huge supporter of the city. Its got a lot more going for it than most give it credit for.

The city is definitely turning itself around…we have moved well past rock bottom. When I first moved here almost 10 years ago, there was a big debate on how to get the city to turn around. Do you build attractions, shops, restaurants first and hope people want to come here? Do you fix the schools, and that will get people back into the city? Or do you build housing/apartments and hope people move in with the existing attractions and schools.

Buffalo has made the first big step in turning this city around, and that is getting people living back downtown again. With that influx of residents, you already see the other pieces starting to fall into place. More attractions, more development, more investment. I agree though that the schools are still a big hurdle that needs to be overcome, and I believe that will change with the continued investment in the city. Don’t compare Buffalos growth to other well established cities, compare it to Buffalo 15-20 years ago. Its got a long way to go, but it has so much potential it really can be something special.

I have traveled all over, and I always find things I love about every city I have been to. That’s normal when visiting… you pick out the things you like more than what you currently have. But live in these places, or talk to those that do and you will find they are not without their problems too. Personally, I would prefer to live my very comfortable lifestyle here in Buffalo, and use all the money I save to visit the rest of the world whenever I want.

You’re starting to see a tipping point in the Buffalo schools when people like Hernandez get voted off the board and people like Paladino, Sampson and Harris-Tigg get voted in. Knock off 1 more of the incompetents in that board and replace them with someone like the 3 new members and something positive might finally start happening with Buffalo schools. Pamela Brown survived by one vote with the 3 newcomers all voting against her. They still have to go up against the BTF though and that’s the epitome of union power leading to corruption.

Politically though the city is still a cesspool of corruption and ineptitude. For every educated person who’s fighting to make Buffalo better there are 10 other bottom feeders looking for a handout. They will keep voting for people like Byron Brown because he’ll keep supplying those handouts. Then you look at the Buffalo Common Council:
http://www.ci.buffalo.ny.us/Home/Leadership/CommonCouncil
This is about as far from a list of inspiring and visionary leaders as you can get.

Every person that moves back who actually works for a living is a likely vote against losers like these though.

I’ve literally been all over the world. Not to as many cities in the US as LZ but pretty damn well traveled.

The issue with Buffalo is with the older generation. The younger generation is willing to put in some time and money to make the city right. The older generation is just so fucking greedy and against change that it takes 50 times longer then required to get anything done.

The local government needs to go, they need fresh blood in the system. Eveything in Buffalo is about who you know, not what you’re capable to doing. The Buffalo schools are a prime example. Look at all the new hires, they are all related to established employee’s. There is just too much corrpution and favortisim in Buffalo to allow decent growth and expansion. If its not someones buddy or their pockets are getting lined you’re going to have hell getting it done.

Look at the friggen Peace bridge… you could make that crossing a location to visit, intergrate it to all those visiting Niagra Falls. A new bridge with a nice water front, etc. Instead everyone goes to Canada, why? Becasue the US side fucking blows. Stay on the US side if you want shitty hookers and drugs.

Additionally I kind of group Buffalo with all of WNY. Its all the same… some suberbs have done an ok job making their 2 block downtowns cute like East Aurar, Hamburg and OP. At the end of the day though thats taking away from the city. I love living in The Woodlands, Tx. I literally lived on a man mande waterway, that was connected to bars, restaurants and the mall. Its great, shit happens and things get done.

Very well said.

I’m not from Buffalo but my wife lived there through college and a few years after, including when we first started dating so I spent a fair amount of time up there. I’ve always lived in a small town and hate cities. The exception is when I lived in Rochester (well Henrietta) for a year in college and it blew. I’ve visited a fair amount of cities even though I wouldn’t call myself a traveler.

With that said, I have a strong desire to move to Buffalo or at least the surrounding area. Yeah, parts of it are a dump and not as nice as it could be but it has all the benefits of a large city while somehow having that small town feeling. I’m not sure if the cards will play out correctly but I honestly hope they do at some point in my life.

I love Buffalo, and I’ve only been to a few cities outside of Buffalo. Just because there are better cities in the US and the world doesn’t mean you need to hate Buffalo. I’m wondering how many people who complain about Buffalo actually go out events like Food Truck Tuesdays in Larkin square? How many people sign up for a 5k to run along the outer harbor? How many participate in charitable events to help rejuvenate Buffalo.

Buffalo is home to some of the best and most diverse food around. I can grab a delicious taco at Mighty, ETS, Cantina Loco, etc. or sit down for a nice Italian meal or steak. Numerous festivals, farmers markets, and co-ops as well.

I think the title “City of Good Neighbors” is an excellent phrase to describe Buffalo. I think people are a lot nicer here than other places, maybe not.

If you’re complaining about Buffalo, you are free to leave at anytime. The only one keeping you here is you.

WNY is nice.

I have no desire to live in the City of Buffalo, but that can be said with every city. I’m just not a city guy.

That being said though, I really like this area (city, suburbs) because of the vastly different areas you can visit. You have our city with it’s many districts, you have the suburbs which are different all by themselves, and then you have our “country” areas which provide some of the most amazing views and activities throughout the entire year.

Will I stay in Buffalo in the next 5-6 years?

Possibly, but I won’t be moving because I “hate” Buffalo or the area, most likely because of job opportunities and the desire to see more of the country.

did LOL.

Buffalo has great food, people are super nice, love our sports teams even tho they let us down most the time lol, we get all the seasons…No tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes…just a few feet of snow. When I get older I’ll get a house in FL and be a snow bird.

Things like this are great like I said building up an area where people can live and work is key…having people drive in from the suburbs to fill positions at the new jobs in the city isn’t the answer.

Putting a lot of money in healthcare right could be :tif: depending on how healthcare shakes down also might be great short but long term is :tif:

At the same time Buffalos flag ship tower is empty its usually one step forward two steps back around here.

New York as a whole needs to get its arms wrapped around the insanely high taxes and a make it attractive for businesses. Take a look at how Lockport fucked up that verizon data center if the lockport area turns into “the new hotspot” for datacenters it will push way more tech companies into Buffalo most of which like trendy urban areas.

I like Buffalo but im realistic about improvements

On my previous school comment and the root of issues

  1. Washington, D.C. - $29,409
  2. Newark, N.J. - $28,642
  3. Buffalo, N.Y. - $26,903
  4. New York City - $24,780
  5. Jersey City, N.J. - $24,511

Yet somehow we do the worst the country and are noway comparable to ANY of those other cities.

This must be the buffalo goto when people say what is good about Buffalo.

You know most people who work in those high paying jobs want nothing to do with the city right? Most people making $500k+ are in the suburbs and aren’t working where the hospital decided to get cheap land. This is actually a good thing for suburbs where most people want to live and are buying expensive houses.

Lastly:

Buffalo, NY
The median income for a household in the city is $24,536, and the median income for a family is $30,614.

Angola, NY
The median income for a household in the village was $40,050, and the median income for a family was $48,352.

Amherst, NY
The median income for a household in the town was $55,427, and the median income for a family was $68,951

i didnt know the majority of hospital workers make 500K+…i thought your typical nurse started out at what 30-35k? well shit i guess im working in the wrong field.
