for those that defend buffalo (best designed city video)

LPN/RN at a hospital make double that if not more.

However you bring up a good point what does 35k buy you in the city for a home? how is the school district? Even 60-70k?

Fix schools and make the city middle class family friendly there are some great areas in the city however all the homes cost 200-250k+ and then your still stuck with shitty schools.

I think a lot of you Buffalo humpers are in for a real wake up call once you get school age children.

If I’m paying north of $200k for a house, I better not HAVE to send my kids to private school.

While the cost of living in buffalo seems low it isn’t. All of your money goes to taxes instead of equity.

and yet again Lz and the other usuals that bash buffalo are at it again. The video had nothing to do with if Buffalo was great or not it had to do with its design its layout and what makes it or can make it such a great city to become once again.

Jeebus people. Fuck. Stupid fucks.

Fwiw, I do not live in Buffalo I have no desire to move to The city or Erie County for that matter I just like the positive that is happening and what we have here.

How ironic is that? lol

Why won’t you live in the city? because of all the other shit I mentioned that needs to get fixed.

I’ll bash Buffalo quietly for the most part. I’ve personally done a lot to advance the city and am doing a lot currently in the Ellicott district over the last couple years.

The radial layout may be elegant but lets face it, it is waaaaaaaaaaaaay easier for visitors, etc to Just have north-south east-west roads.

And logical.

Meh, I see kids as a terrible financial move, so I probably won’t be having them.

Unfortunately it’s a downfall of NYS in general. Higher taxes, higher rates for most other stuff. I hate the politicians for that.

Good luck with that

Ahh yes, the old Buffalo sucks/ Buffalo is awesome argument. I long for this quarterly discussion.

:io:

LoL Buffalo would be a great place to live if I won the lotto and never had to worry about money or working for that matter. The city does have a ton of history and is super cool as far as architecture but then so again are the pyramids in Giza, doesn’t mean I wanna live there.

Solid video, glad things are looking better for the city. There really isn’t anything I’d rather see then Buffalo exploding as a city. (in a good way, not an on fire way)

Doubt it. But I now understand where your loathing might stem from.

the biggest problem with Buffalo is that it is in the state of New York /thread

Still waiting for my Offend Buffalo shirts and stickers

Im a big supporter of Buffalo. I want this place to become something more. I have always had considerations/ curiosity of moving though, and I believe that is just natural for alot of people as they grow and mature. You come to know the place you live and it can become “boring”. I tell people this often: When you visit somewhere new, its exciting because its new and fresh and not what youre accustomed to. Everything you see is “cool” or “different”. Some day while driving home, try to pretend you are brand new to this city and you are seeing things for the first time. It definitely takes some mental focus, but it helps bring out alot of the aspects that people who have never been here find so unique and interesting about this city.

Quick story that kinda supports this: I have been to Boston a couple of times to visit a good buddy- absolutely love that city. I would definitely move to Boston if I had a choice of cities to relocate. Tons of culture and character with that old time colonial/ historic feel. Its also close to plenty of great hiking and outdoorsy things. This friend of mine was in Buffalo recently and I got talking to him about all the places I love in Boston- including many of the bars. We were at Coles, which is a place I enjoy going for dinner/ a drink but find to be kinda “meh” these days. I asked him “Are those bars as cool as they are to you as they are for me?”, his answer… “No”- he thought the bars/ restaurants in Boston sucked/ or were just normal. The thing of it is- he got over that “honeymoon” stage when he moved to Boston. At first it was all fresh, new, exciting, super awesome. Then, after living there for a few years, they were just the same old bars/ restaurants that he normally would go to on a weekend- because he became accustomed to it and it was no longer new and exciting. Moral of the story- you can visit somewhere and have it be great. Its a new experience and usually new experiences in new areas have a positive feeling to us. You can live there and blow my theory out of the water and live your whole life in a new city and always think its great, but I believe that there is a big difference between visiting somewhere compared to living there. The first year of living somewhere will be awesome, but I feel after some time it will just become the new place where you live and work, and you will become use to the area- possibly desiring somewhere else new and exciting. I have never tried it though so this is all just a theory in my mind.

The biggest reasons I would move are being my desire for more activities and at a young age to be in a place thats already established, not trying to become established. Buffalo has plenty to do- my weekends are usually booked, but being an outdoorsy guy I cant help but to have the curiosity of what it would be like to live in the west like Washington or Colorado. The reality is that I will most likley reside in Buffalo my whole life as I want to be close to family and Im alright with that. I will continue to promote, defend, and support Buffalo. I will continue to be happy living here- but there is no doubt that they have alot of catching up to do- but the latest developments give me a stronger hope.

You summed it up well. Buffalo has a good amount of outdoorsy things to do that aren’t too far away, but nothing compared to the West coast. What bothers me is when people complain about Buffalo every day, but NEVER take part in the numerous events going on around the city. These are the people that can find a way to hate ANY place that they end up. Fun has to be delivered to these people for them to be happy.

This!

I think a lot of Buffalo born people are just downers by birth. Yes, theyre the same people who are just fine with making enough money to pay their shitty bills, and get buzzed at the bar at the end of the day. Theres too many of this type here. Im just wondering if the chicken or the egg came first. The point is there is now (and in my eyes always has been) a lot to do within 1.5 hours of Buffalo and if you cant find that stuff youre probably a pretty lame person. The thing that stands out to me is the people who bitch about snow who have most likely never even tried to get out skiing, or sledding or playing pond hockey just once. Embrace the unique things that make your city, your city.

Buffalo winters are long and depressing.

BUT.

Getting out of the house, shutting off the TV and doing stuff really helps with that.

Go figure.

I like Buffalo so much that I enjoy watching it from a suburb of Austin, TX.

Just from personal experience here, I struggled in Buffalo to make a decent living. After 5 years of working in a dead end job, I decided to go and get a job in my field in Texas.

Doing that, I doubled my salary instantly, went to a state with no state income tax, cheaper gas prices, and an overall nicer climate.

I moved my wife down here a few months later and she landed a job that doubled her previous salary as well.

We aren’t Viper rich, but enjoy a better quality of life, and I have started shopping for a nice 2-3 year old house in the suburbs, not a 100 year old house that we lived in a Buffalo.

I like visiting Buffalo twice a year, mostly during fall… Thats good enough for me.
