Ford 4.6L SOHC Camshaft Swap

I have a nice set of cams sitting here I would like to install into my Crown Victoria for a little extra grunt, but I have questions.

MUST I remove the timing cover from the front of the engine?

or

IS there a way to temporarily hold the timing chain in place (without letting the tensioner push out), while I do the switch-a-roo?

Any tips, secrets, hints, etc are very welcome. Thanks a lot guys!

Justin

Dont need to remove the timing cover but it would make it easier. The timing chain tensioners won’t over extend. Lemme see if I can find a thread on svtp for ya.

looks like some ford tools are used to make not taking the timing cover off a lot easier.

There is a cam holding tool for this engine also.

I have a feeling I’ll be helping you with this…

Probably not, actually. I just found out that ALL 4.6L SOHC Camshafts whether it be Mustang, Pickup Truck, Crown Victoria, are all the same. This means the camshafts I have sitting here in the garage, are the same as what I have already in my car. Ugh.

Anybody wanna buy a set of PI cams?

fail

Can you send em out for a re grind?
