Ford Fusion Ads bother me

The ads where ford compares their AWD fusion to camary, altima, accord etc.

Ok… so I just did some price comparison… the Fusion vs other cars.
AWD BASE fusion 24k
Top of the line camary 24k
Base Legacy Sedan 20k, Limited sedan 24k (2nd level) GT 28k
base WRX 24k
Base Accord 18k
Accord V6 (Apples to apples) 23k
Nisan Maxima mid level 24k

Basically from what I gather… Ford tested their Top of the line AWD car against base cars that are 2k-8k less
and after all is said and done… it’s still a ford, which’ll start breaking about 5 years after owning it… the other cars 8-10 years of reliability

2007 Ford Fusion Midsize Sedan Styles
MSRP Price Range: $17,295 - $23,885

2007 Toyota Camry Midsize Sedan Styles
MSRP Price Range: $18,470 - $28,020

2007 Honda Accord Midsize Sedan Styles
MSRP Price Range: $18,625 - $33,090

2007 Nissan Altima Midsize Sedan Styles
MSRP Price Range: $17,950 - $28,400

All from Edmunds.com.

Looks like they were taking on higher priced competition.

BikerFry…
Directly from Fords site
V6 SE AWD Fusion (Base) 24,090

The ad Says it out-performs the above mentioned cars…
Most of the Above mentioned cars are 7k less at base (I’m sure they put the base in the tests)
yes you get V6, but IT’s like testing an Aldi’s Steak vs a nice cut of fresh Angus from a butcher
Of course the 7k more V6 AWD will outperform the I4 sedans… It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out… I coulda told ford what would test higher before they did the “Fusion challenge”
7k is a pretty High price that’s 1/4 of the price of the car… its close to a down payment on a decent house in kenmore or tonawanda

Also… they NEVER brought a subaru into the competition… Becasue well it’s awd and probably woulda made ford embarased.

i’m with you on that one, they say over and over again its the “only car in its class with available AWD” now I don’t know what the “class” is but I deffinately consider the legacy to be direct competition for the fusion…

last fall my dad gave me a free ford taurus because he didnt want it anymore. it wasnt bad, you know, the headlight switch got so hot it melted the fucking wiring harness but it was ok, it started on fire and burned the fuck out of my hand, but ya i would def buy another ford. totally. fine pieces of machinery

that was cool

Except for the fact that Fords are typically discounted way more than their import rivals. You really can’t go by MSRP comparisons because of that.

It’s all in the marketing, note they didn’t say standard.

Well, the Fusion does have the Duratec with it’s lovely cast iron crankshaft and valves that drop at high temperatures. It’s just a little wobbly. In fact, Mazda put variable valve timing heads on that engine such that they could retard the timing before the engines blow up. Smartiepanters.

Meh, I’m less concerned about this and more annoyed by the Ford Edge commercial. Lets just all defy the laws of physics/gravity!

Lets not forget that a “base” fusion AWD is probably WAY BETTER equiped than a base Toyota/Honda.

Almost no one buys base Hondas and Toyotas because they are so base. “Oh, you want an FM radio with that, it’s an option”. The majority of those FWD foreign cars are going out the door with the same options at the same price as an AWD Fusion, so I think it’s a great comparison.

Some people are just pissed that Ford might actually be putting out a few decent cars in the Fusion and Edge.

Does that commercial have a disclaimer saying that you can’t actually drive the Edge on the edges of buildings and such? I think that it does…:bloated:

HA HA yes the edge has that warning, i can’t believe they acutally have to put that shit

ford has THE WORST ADVERTISING department i’ve ever seen.

really? the tec engine has been in the taurus since 1996 and i have never herd of that problem. i’ve been on taurus car club for 5 years. i’ve been on shoforum for 4 years and nobody has mentioned it there either. infact there is tons of threads about the reliability of the ford engines in the taurus and the only real problem that comes up is IMRC (the intake gets gunked up and the butterflies wont open) problems and the cam failure on the V8 SHO’s

unles your talking about a problem on the fusion i’m unaware of. To my knowlegs the tec has been a very solid engine. many easly exceding 200K and the car is almost always ditched because of tranny failure :frowning:

my next car will be a toyota that gets 40+mpg.

There are at least two different racing series that are using the Duratec engines without any reliability problems: MX-5 Cup, and Formula Mazda.

yea this commercial has bugged me for quite some time. I just cant see how you can test a AWD V6 against I4 FWDs, also they never say what kind of test. was it a little Auto-X or a road course or a bang around in a parking lot type thing. Who drove the cars, probably a bunch of ignorant fucks who have gay sex with ford and hate imports. I’d Like to hear their definition of “class”. how can a car that has no class be in a class lol.

fusion = mazda right?

mazda 6 rebadged in true ford style

You guys make a valid point on the price vs the competition that they test… you can get a pretty nice toyota or honda for the price of a fusion…
The biggest thing is… they didn’t bring in a subie, I understand from a marketing choice that would be a bad decision because the “independent” test would have gone pretty wrong for ford.
