Fort Erie NASCAR Track (Canadian Motor Speedway) *Construction: 2017*

they still need the money… anyone with brains knows that it will take alot more than a second rate race track to fill a hotel and a shopping mall in fort erie…

maybe they’ll just ignore the low occupancy ratre for the mall and hotel at the Fallsview casino or the fact that shopping in Canada has no value for Americans since you end up paying sales taxes on top of the import taxes from US into Canada…

Bing, why so negative? I would think you would be happy about the potential for a world class track being built so close.

Anyone else notice the lead broad who opposes the speedway is named Sandy Vant. I just  at that.

Track still has to go before Minisitry of Environment and Ministry of Natural Resources, sources at the track say they want to break ground late winter, early spring this year.

Im hoping my company wins the bid to do their ticketing. I may be able to have some inside info when this happens.

sweet, I hope it goes forward!

nice, this would be cool

Would be cool if they had the oval course, a non oval course and a 1/4

i just don’t believe it yet.

The website says “we race 2011”. Most things never meet deadlines, but even 2 or 3 years away isnt bad, I am excited

If all goes well and funding is not an issue how soon does anyone realistically think we will be on the track?

Now that I’ll be staying in Buffalo for a while longer, I really hope that this goes through.

2014 - 2016

:fu::fu::fu:

Their goal is to host their first event summer of 2011.

BUMP because I’ve had a few people ask for updates on this Fort Erie track…

… This track did not secure funding and is dead. My information is > 1 year old though so things might have changed, but I highly doubt it.

Only 1 proposed track still has a little life in it: http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?155877 … But at this moment we have no updates.

do you have some confirmation on this because i thought the same thing but a colleague of mine who lives in the area says it is still progressing.

Remember that “inside baseball” that was thrown our way last year sometime? Search your email. I know you were CC’d

yeah but i found it to be inconclusive, especially in light of recent conversations.

We might be talking about different emails. We’ve had a lot of them, lol. The one I’m refrencing was was quite direct.

But even if we disregard emails, rumors & conjecture, does your recent info give you any hope they’ll secure the millions of dollars in public funding they’ll need for the project? Is the private funding still in place after all these years?

Cliffs:
Approved by Town Board
Approved by Region Board
Approved by whatever the Canadian equivalent of the EPA for Ontario is.
Set for a OMB hearing, OMB hearing delayed due to amount of people involved
OMB Schedules Pre Hearing, which gets nothing accomplished other than them agreeing to call each other next month and set a date for the real hearing
(The pre hearing was yesterday)

A standing room only crowd was on hand Tuesday morning for the Canadian Motor Speedway’s Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) pre-hearing conference at the Fort Erie Council Chambers. The purpose for the conference was to determine a time table for the actual OMB hearing.
Conflicts in scheduling for experts, legal council and parties opposed to the project kept a firm date from being set. Available council dates in May, June, July and August were not amicable for all sides thus leading to the discussion of a September timetable for the hearing. It was later decided that dates for the four week process would be set via conference call in February.
During the proceedings a list of concerns brought against the Canadian Motor Speedway project were read to those in attendance. Those concerns included consistency in zoning policies, noise polution, traffic flow, water and wildlife disturbance, agricultural removal and other enviromental issues including a question from the crowd concerning climate affects. The other concern presented by the opposed party was in regards to whether or not the CMS project represents good planning.
With an original plan for construction to begin in late spring of 2012 it now appears the process has been further stalled and a final verdict will not be decided upon until the fall. This will most certainly push back the planned grand opening of mid-2013 unless an earlier hearing date can be agreed upon in February.
At this point the Canadian Motor Speedway project appears to be under yellow flag conditions for the time being, however those involved with CMS have every intention of making sure the green flag will fly at the proposed 1 mile, 65,000 seat oval facility in Fort Erie, Ontario.

If Josh is right and they don’t have the funding, not sure why they’d keep eating legal fees to push it this far, but hey, what do I know.

Because of the one thing you forgot on your checklist - the provincial funding (tax payer money, $3+ Million if I remember correctly) that was requested. They have to push for public approval via the legal system in order to pursue public funding.

It’s very possible that the project has sourced private funds for the project and it should be possible to find out who’s backing it. Or the political climate may have changed enough where public money is now more likely.

I said that 6 months ago, so make it 1.5 years old now, lol. It was 2nd hand and refereed to the public funding BTW.

Oh, I wasn’t discrediting your information, though it did kind of sound like that. I honestly believe what you say is more than likely, but they are hinged on a hope and a dream at this point and going to see it out “to the end” just to prove a point.
