BMW should postpone changing a production line over for 2 weeks for this guy. That makes sense.
It’s reasonable for them to offer compromises or a total refund. They can still sell the car if they give him a refund, and it’s only one pissed off customer. I’m sure he’s not the only person to ever be disappointed by BMW, it happens. Not saying I don’t see where he is coming from.
BMW made a mistake and they know it. While I would be pretty upset if I was that guy, everything they are offering seems consistant with a company that wishes to maintain a reputation of having good customer service.
It seems that if it wasn’t on the standard production line there would be less of an issue. They may have been some special pieces but I don’t see why they wouldn’t use the standard production methods to put the interior in. Undoubtedly BMW has made mistakes on special order cars before. Remaking the car wouldn’t be a problem in the beginning or middle of a car’s production cycle, but now it isn’t an option. If he isn’t happy with the alternatives he should just walk away with the refund.
I don’t understand how anyone can side with BMW over the guy buying it. A car is generally your second largest investment next to buying a house. With that said, if I ordered a car and took the time before hand to make sure everything was right before I gave my x amount of money for that vehicle to be built… I’m expecting to get exactly what I ordered. If they mess up, that’s on them. Taking the interior out and placing it into another car from a body shop is bullshit and not proper. As he stated, it could go together half assed.
Offer either to build a new one (which I know they said would take to long) Or you refund him and pay for his trip since you (the company) fucked up. Bottom line, the customer is always right…especially this situation. (yes I know that’s not always the case with the customer being right)
edit: and repainting a car without it being factory paint, Never!
Can you imagine the anticipation of getting your car and coming down the escalator to the grand reveal and it’s not the right color? Holy smokes, I’d shit my pants. He had to have been confused as hell for a minute until he realized the color was wrong. I personally would be looking for Ashton Kutcher.
I’d still say one of the biggest investments. You are buying a car, which usually when done with you… you look to resell it and hope that the market is strong on that vehicle you purchased to get back the most that you can from it. People buy Subaru why… because right now they are great quality cars that hold the value for resale. That’s an investment.
Ed, the car salesman: I’ll get to the bottom of this. Davenport!
Davenport: Yes, Mr. Ed?
Ed, the car salesman: Mr. Griswold ordered a blue sports wagon, where is it?
Davenport: I don’t know sir.
Ed, the car salesman: [to Clark] I know what must have happened. It didn’t come in.
Clark Griswald: Ed, I’m not your average everyday fool. Now I want my blue sports wagon and if you can’t get it I’m gonna take my business elsewhere! Where’s my old car?
Ed, the car salesman: I’m just as upset as you are, believe me. Davenport! Get Mr. Griswald’s car back and bring it back here! Now I can get you the wagon, there’s not problem there. The problem is that it might take six weeks. Now, I owe it to myself to tell you that if you’re taking the whole tribe cross-country, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster… You think you hate it now, wait 'til you drive it.
Clark Griswald: I don’t want to drive it. I just want my old car back. I’m not falling for this. Let’s go, Russ
Having a low rate of deprecation still isn’t an investment.
If you just paid 80k for a new M3 drive it off the lot let me know how much money its now worth…
Car forums are a great example look at all the cars on here people couldn’t ever afford brand new but 4-5 years old are half the price of new if not less.
this. cars are a terrible investment unless its a classic etc. then MAYBE but its still a gamble. you do it for the love of the car or need, not to invest. i bought my $100k brand new mercedes e55 amg with 28k miles on it and a warranty for $26k, i did get a good deal but still the car was only 7 years old and as far and im concerned basically brand new.
In order to consider it an investment, you’d have to take the rate of inflation into account. Sure Jaguars were only $7000 back in the day, but people only made that in a year. Now jaguars are $80k. It’s all relative. Just because you bought a classic car and waited 50 years for it to be worth $70k, good for you. Take that $7000 you used and if you invested it 50 years ago, it’d be worth hundreds of thousands.
I consider all vehicles investment, even if they lose value.
A good car will get you to a good job to make you money. People don’t take into account the intangibles. Even more so when you buy vehicles specifically for work.
i wonder if when they were building this car in the factory if the assembly men were making fun of this guy for his color combo choice…turns out the joke is on them
