fine, say it was a normal size brick, or a rock about the same height

as for the scratches, ADD SOME, and realize that nothing past the oil pan needs to be scratched up, because the brick / rock you hit broke on impact with the pan

damage the front bumper enough and you basically get the new one paid off and painted

You’re not going to get any serious offers until you make a serious effort. Post some pics. Frame, floor pan, engine bay, damage, etc.

sorry to hear what happened dude. If I were you I wouldn’t give up on the car, it seems like you put a lot of time and effort into the car and you still seem to enjoy it…even if it does piss you off, to me it seems like a waste to get rid of it…but either way GL with whatever you do with it…if you decide to keep it and want some help with it…lmk i’d love to learn some things about the car. :tup:

i’ve also started to investigate a bit into this MINEs engine possibility…i’m a bit skeptical since after 4 or 5 years in the Z scene i’ve never heard of it…but if i get good reviews from other Z guys that have had experiences it’ll be something i’ll definitely have to consider strongly…

either way i’m not making any decisions until i’m calmed down and over this initial shock/freakout stage…i’m in no mental state to make an important/big decision right now…i’m calling our insurance agent monday, who is a very close friend of the family, and going to see what my options are as far as getting an insurance check. i’m sure something can be worked out, but a main concern is that an estimate for the cost of a new shortblock…or even possibly needing an entire longblock…along with the estimated cost of labor…will outweigh the weight of the car since in the end, even though i have full complete coverage on it…it’s still only a 115K mile, 18 year old, non turbo model 300ZX…so i’m afraid of it being claimed totaled. i don’t know what to do from there…don’t know anything about legalities with getting a car to go from being totaled to road legal/worthy again, etc…

now what exactly happened to the engine? ripped the oil pan completely off or punctured it? what if you rebuild the motor? is it saveable? sorry for the questions i’m just curious because i’ve followed your multiple threads about the car.

i dunno, i didn’t even look at it…i was way too upset and freaked out to do anything to it. all i saw was oil pouring out everywhere when i laid down next to it. i’ll get it home tonight or tomorrow and maybe tomorrow afternoon take a look…but it’s supposed to rain NON STOP for the next few days…and i have no garage, so i dont know when i’ll be able to look at it. i didn’t try to turn it at all so i dont know if it’s seized or not…

monday’s when i’m calling the insurance company…so that’s when i’ll know what kinda money i have to work with. if i can get enough, i’m doing rods/pistons/beaings/etc…not taking any chances this time…assuming i fix it.

Out of curiosity, did you read my post on the first page? I’m willing to put $10 on it that the pressure sender broke. Old pressure senders were these huge fuckin monstrosities that protrude like 2 inches from the block and are like 2in OD but they have a dinky 1/8" NPT thread so they break so easily. Just look at it. If you send me a pic with you in it with a perfectly fine pressure sender, I’ll paypal you $10.

These motors don’t just “throw rods” man. I’m not going to sit here and speculate, but don’t make any rash decisions until you KNOW what the problem is.

Mines is a Japanese tuner, BTW. They’re big into GTRs. However, unless you know EXACTLY what tune is on it you’re much better off sticking with AshSpec. Who knows what program / mods it was written for.

And like 90% of Z guys preach, stay away from JSpec motors. There is no reason to buy a JSpec motor unless you plan to rebuild it anyway.

out of curiosity, what makes you think you will be getting insurance money? insurance doesn’t cover your engine blowing, right? they cover collisions.
