FS/Feeler: 2002 Subaru Impreza.

I’m contemplating selling my car. Just wanted to see what kind of buzz I can generate from it, offers, etc. I just actually got an offer of $8,500.2002 2.5 RS, aspen white. As of now, the car has 101,XXX miles on it. Oil changed regularly every 3,500 miles. 5W30/0W30 in Winter, 10W40 in Summer. Car has been autocrossed a lot (30+) times, and rallycrossed 5 times. Car is a very solid competitor for both sports. I’ve gotten compliments from many a Subaru enthusiast, as well as “regular” people on how great the car sounds/looks. As of today, it is now Crawford-Tuned with an SRS-19 re-flash. Check out CrawfordPerformance.com.

Car was inspected in September of this year (2008), so, it’s good for another 9 months.

Mods are as follows:

Interior:

-JVC CD player with iPod hook-up
-Escort SOLO I radar detector
-Passport GT2 G-Timer
-OMP 3-point harness
-Black front/rear seats with pass-through (rare color)
-Cabin-air filter (RS’ never had them)

Exterior:

-STi trunk, debadged
-Rally Armor black flaps

Engine/Exhaust:

-Crawford Performance SRS-19 re-flash
-K&N drop-in
-Ganzflow intake (heat-wrapped)
-Bosch +4 plugs
-Ultimate-Racing 3" cat-back
-All heat shields except cat removed
-Front O2 sensor replaced today, as well as the knock-sensor
-1 cat removed

Brakes/Drivetrain:

-Hawk HPS pads (front, 15k miles), Porterfield (rear, 9k miles)
-COBB short throw/adjustable shifter
-Super Blue fluid
-Redline fluid for tranny

Suspension/Handling:

-KYB 4-way adjustable struts
-TiC “Scooby 921” spacers in rear
-2006 STi tophats
-2005 STi springs
-STi rear-sway
-KartBoy endlinks (rear)
-Whiteline sway mount (rear) and bushings

Wheels/Tires:

-2004 STi BBS’ (rash on 2 wheels) with 225/55/17 Mastercraft Glacier Grip II tires
-Will include a set of 245/45/17 Continental Sport Extremes

For a 2.5 RS, the car is very quick and handles amazing. It’s a strong car for STX/STS class and with slicks, it’d be a great DSP car.

The bad:

Normal wear and tear, paint chips, etc.

I backed up into a large concrete block. The rear-right quarter panel and bumper are damaged. Pics can be seen below. I have pounded it out the best I can, without doing too much work to it. Has scrapes on bumper, but, the actual dent doesn’t look too bad anymore.

Right side fog light is burnt out. Only reason I can’t change it is because the screw that holds the light in is stripped. It can be easily fixed.

Your car is much nicer than mine was, but food for thought - I couldn’t sell my '02 RS with 80k for $5k, before the economy tanked. If you can’t sell it to an enthusiast, you will probably have to drop your price.

GLWS. That car looks clean, and I would love to drive it, personally!

I would take that offer you received and RUN with it

Oh, that was an offer of $8,500?

Do it, do it now. That’s more than the car’s worth, even given well-done mods and good condition.

agreed, take the 8500

Nice car, ive seen it driving around and it looks/ sounds good. GLWS! If you had this up 3 months ago I would have taken it.

take the $8500… that’s way more than it’s really worth.

I told the guy who offered $8,500 that it’s a done deal and to let me know, but, he’s yet to respond back, so I thought I’d throw it up here.

Thanks for all the compliments, too.

just don’t play too excited with this guy or he’ll catch on to the price being high OR think you found something about to break and want to unload.

I never get too excited, car deals are never as easy as they seem. He’s looking at other ones now as we speak, so, hopefully I’ll get a word back soon.

lol @ 8500 for an autocrossed, beat up, na, subaru.

GLWTS. that would be amazing for you.

It’s really not beat up whatsoever. It has the dent in the rear-quarter panel, but that’s all. It’s a rock-solid car, the suspension is tight, the endlinks and bigger rear-sway help loads with reducing body roll.

And yes, it’s NA. But, I was able to remain competitive in STX class going against all WRXs and Integra Type-Rs and what-not. It’s also got a Crawford-Tuned SRS-19 ECU.

But, thanks for the good luck!

2500 cash

today

Stock RS’ from 1999 with 160k on them go for $4k easy. Sorry.

I’d say the 1999 2.5rs goes for that much because of no other reason than the highly sought after 2 door coupe shell, by enthusiasts. And generally, Stock cars sell for more to educated buyers.

That being said, the car looks great and i’m sure it drives great as well. Best of luck with the offer you received. glws.

Yeah, but the prices don’t increase that quickly. Edmunds pegs yours at $5,300, dealers are selling them at around $6,000. Your mods, in this case, don’t hurt the value of the car (suspension mods are good, engine mods are bad), but the fact that you autocrossed it a lot will decrease the value, so I’ll call all that a wash. You’re getting an amazing deal at $8,500, hope it goes through for you!

(A) None of this is to say that I wouldn’t pay more than $5,300 for this, given the chance, because I might, due to the mods, but as a rule money spent on mods gets you performance and <$0 in resale unless you find another enthusiast and did everything right (as you appear to have).

(B) I think he was joking.

Yeah, I know performance mods very rarely get anything in return. The car was autocrossed a lot, but, that’s basically what I built the car to do. I didn’t touch the engine because I know many are weary about too many engine mods. The only engine mods are the Ganzflow intake, which came with the car, and the Crawford Performance ECU, which is the same company that makes the engines for Subaru time-attack and rally cars.

30 times is a stretch. 15 times is more like it. I can recall 6 times on the stock suspension, and, around that many times on the new suspension this year since I autocrossed the 911 the majority of this season.

If it was a joke, then I’m sorry for the response.

I really hope the $8,500 goes through with this, too. Thanks for the support.

I think I’ve worked on this car a few times, last time I remember there wasn’t anything wrong with it…I think. I work on a LOT of cars.

I’ve only had the car to Innovative and Hybrid. Hybrid had to rotate a flange on my exhaust and Innovative removed a cat.

what kind of gas mileage do these get, being driven normal, and not at all in a race car like fashion?
