93k. 5MT. Everything works. Mechanically flawless. Newer OEM clutch, alternator, brakes. Needs nothing. Studded snows and heated leather seats = awesome in the winter. There’s a lot I’m going to miss about this car, but I gotta get out of debt so I’m downgrading to like a shitvic or something (God help me.) $8k left on the loan so that’s what she’s gotta sell for.
If I still had the all-seasons I would sell you the snows. But they were worn out so I tossed them when I had the snows put on.
Yeah, I am going to miss those seats the most. Crank up the lumbar and turn up the heat and it’s like a therapy chair or something. I went somewhere with an old army ranger I worked with and he said that my seat was the only thing he’s found that relieves his back pain. The fawkers get almost hot enough to burn you when they’re all the way up.
Somebody’s gonna want it. I already dealt with all the VW gremlins so someone else can have a reliable Jetta. Replaced the idler pulley. Aftermarket nylon bushings on the RCV.
Just to get it all out there, here’s everything there is to tell about the car:
There’s one problem that I just remembered: The AC stopped working at the end of the summer. I don’t know what the problem is. I tried recharging it but that didn’t seem to be the problem. I read that these cars have a somewhat common problem with a relay gumming up or something. So who knows…
My only mod is an intake that consists of a K&N cone on the end of some PVC. Perfectly functional but nothing to look at. I’ve got all the stock intake stuff so I’m planning on putting it back together unless it sells first.
The clutch was replaced with a Sachs (German OEM) at about 80k. ColdAccord’s buddy did it. I broke it in gently and my driving style isn’t hard on clutches so I’d expect that to last a long time.
I replaced the alternator with a brand new oem one from germanautoparts.com. I broke the radiator in the process so it’s got a brand new radiator too. Radiator came from Hank/Skrapper @ Napa.
So mechanically I don’t expect this car to have any problems for a long time. I don’t know if I mentioned it in the thread but the snows are the only tires for the car. My all seasons were worn out so I threw em out at the end of the season.
Cosmetically, there are 3 defects worth mentioning.
-The front black plastic valance cracked so I just reinforced it with some pieces of aluminum and rivets. Not really noticable since it’s so low on the car and just on the black valance. $60 for a new one from the dealership, 2 torx screws and 5 minutes of work if it does bother you.
-The jackstand slipped once so the passenger side rocker panel is kind of pushed up a bit on the underside. You either have to be standing a ways away or bent way over to see it. Again, not real noticable because it’s just on the underside.
-A little piece of the driver side mirror got broken off when I tried to fit through a spot between my friends car and my house that turned out to be a half in narrower than my car. I glued the piece back on. Looks decent but if you’re real anal you might want to spend a little time masking/spraying the mirror housing to hide the crack.
No rust. (VW galvanizes the body of their cars so I wouldn’t expect any significant rust for maybe 8ish years.) Interior’s good. Leather’s flawless. Shifts nice. Monsoon audio sounds good. It’s actually pretty luxurious.
So that’s about it. The only thing the car needs is tires in the spring. The only thing that needs fixing is the AC. All in all it’s very solid and a great DD.
So there’s my sales pitch. Lemme know if you want to look at it.
