1985 Cutlas Cierra will not go into park…either stays in nutural or reverse. Spelling is probly bad but i just got home from the bars and on the way there the problem started…any help is appreciated, i hope its an easy, quick fix

never touched a front wheel drive car so i have no clue where to even start with this
it might be the old 125 transmission. that thing was a pile of garbage. will the shifter itself move into the forward gears but the tranny will not shift into them or is it binding?
if its binding in more than likely linkage but if it will not shift into the gear then the forward (i think it was called 2-1 back then) band might have went out of the tranny. You will still get neutral and reverse without it but no forward gears.
the shifter will move to any position but the car does not actually go into park. It eitehr rolls away or backs up as if in nuetural or reverse
kinda sounds like it could be busted linkage. check for leaks and the fluid level.
Im betting on linkage though, cuz usually unless you busted the final drive in the tranny you will get park since its manually selected and the parking pawl locks the drive in place
