Was that electrical tape holding the vacuum line on (or not holding it on)???
Edit: And how did you not realize you were running 30 lbs?? Wasn’t it faster than what your used to??? Or didn’t it rip up the tires in 3rd gear???
If you are doing it right don’t skip any steps and shit rig it
yea i did notice it def chirped in third… and yes we used tape cause its all we had at the track… i was dumb… but i def learned from my mistake… this is one of my first actual project cars. the talon was a piece and i really didnt do much with it except brake rust off of it. i thought my engine was invincible subconsciously. now i know more… big learning experience for me!
edit: that line is never coming off again. i have atleast 4 clamps holding it on… lol!
i totally agree just kinda sucks… lol, i havent taken any shortcuts or cheap routes yet… why start now.
edit: i posted up that i needed this part on srtforums.com and i got a couple hits from people who have them! priority shipping!
Yeah tough way to learn!! I killed my stock turbo on my talon back in the day. I mixed and matched different kinds of couplers, which normally isn’t a big deal unless your using them as step downs from a larger intake to a smaller turbo inlet.
Damn thing sucked in the insert and ate it for lunch. Luckily for me, I got another T-25 for $100. All the trouble could of been avoided had I just bought the right coupler in the first place.
But your deal was a little bit bigger “Oooops!”
yea but i saved alot of money by doing the work myself. i learned a shit load too. i had a guy who would stop over in my uncles shop to make sure i was doing things right and gave me a hand with alot of stuff. but other than the actual engine build itself i didnt really spend more than 20 bucks on a case of beer. lol
ok yesterday we started the car up! idled rough for a min then settled out! then i realized that the car was pissing coolant out of the oil filter housing(it had several cracks in it) luckily i have just about 2 of every part. and had one handy with me to swap out the bad one! so we tested the other one off the car for leaks to save time, it passed we submerged it and blew air through it and it held no bubbles!
so i install the new oil filter housing, top off the oil and coolant, and started it up again! fired right up a second time, both times however we had to jump the car seeing that the battery was dead.
after the car ran for a few seconds we took the jumper cables off and as soon as we did this the car started sputtering and died. 99% sure the alternator is shot and i need a new one… annoying. i do have a small issue with the shift cables/shifter the gear box is resistant to shifting into 5th and reverse(feels funny) i also think i have a very small oil leak on the front of the block(it drips once every ten minutes or more).
after i get the new alternator in and the oil leak fixed the car should be good to go!
not too bad for my first engine swap/ replacement
just curious…when the car was overboosting…by like 394573985 psi…and you say you didn’t even notice for a few laps…wtf?
didnt the car at least feel A LITTLE FASTER? it had to…what, did you just think you had a wicked tail wind…on every straight, in every direction?
regardless, cool that you got it all back up and running right away
wish i knew how you get motivated…my car’s sat for 3 months or so since i blew it, and i haven’t touched it once…
no i didnt think, i just drove worry free. omg my car is faster! thats weird o well must be a good thing… let just say that i learn things the hard/expensive way! lol
as far as motivation, i love my car! and cant wait to get behind the wheel again. honestly i think working on my car is somewhat fun to an extent! taking things apart and putting them together is fun to me for some reason. after i get the alternator in and put on about 500 miles, i cant wait to dyno it and see the number difference from the dyno when evilsrt owned it!
btw: a big thanks to evilsrt who came out and helped me double check a bunch of things to make sure it was ready to turn the key! thumbs up to a great guy!
edit: i didnt push it for all of the 2 laps either i was confused as to why it felt/sounded/acted so differently
got the car on the road today! car drove great. except it needs a wheel alignment. so then i got it home and tryed to start it again… and the starter is shot… so now i have to wait for a new starter…
o how annoying!
What is the starter doing that it’s giving you the impression that it’s busted?
battery has charge, alternator works, and when u turn the key it doesnt tick
how’s the ground on the starter?
looks fine to me… its one of the things im gonna move today to see if i can get a better ground and see if that works!
ok so i moved the ground for the starter… and tried to turn the car over on a full battery yesterday… still no luck. but i took the starter completely out of the car and the bolt that the power hooks up to is extremely loose and i think that is causing the failure. so i hooked up the starter to the battery charger to see if it would spin. and it doesnt do n e thing it just sits there… so im confident i found the problem… my new starter is being shipped out monday, hopefully it gets to me by wed! ill keep the thread up to date!
so the car is back on the road… everything seems to be just peachy, have to keep the car below 3k and out of boost for a while (300-500) miles to break in the engine…
went to cruise night tonight… got to park next to several srt4s it was interesting. glad to be back on the road, looking forward to a nice dyno day to see how the changes improve the numbers!
nice man
rock on! drop buy after that motors broken in!
