Garage heater recommendations

Wood FTW.

I got a propane heater from Home Depot last year. Heats the garage in a hurry and keeps it warm. Doesn’t go through propane that fast, and is garage safe.

I think it was $79. My garage is about the same size and is insulated just as the OP.

spend a few days in the nearby woods with a chainsaw and an axe… split the wood and let sit for a few weeks to dry out…
plus
a little extra man points never hurts…

Was just looking on their site for it, no luck.

Looks like this but is a pop up. Called a portable propane convection heater.

I have one of the 28k btu blue flame heaters in my garage. About the same size and inslated (minus the ceiling, which is sheet rocked). Keeps it nice and toasty.

I have it plumbed into the house (propane).

Im actually looking to sell it to buy a newer one with a T-stat. Even on low, it will get it warmer than the house in there, if the temps are like 30deg or above. Im hoping one of the t-stat ones will allow me to keep it on for a week or two at a time, without it being too crazy hot.

After I bought my propane heater I realized that it was doing the exact same thing my BBQ grill does.:biglaugh:
Seriously, it is the same f’ing thing.
If you have a grill just use that.

Those heaters work great, its different than a bbq grill man. It emits way more heat than a couple burners.

The salon that I get my haircut at uses one of those units hooked up permanently to natural gas. It keeps a large salon with 20 foot ceilings toasty warm.

I bet you go through alot of propane though, so definitely stock up at the rez.

This is what mine looks like.
I am telling you it puts out the same thing as my grill.

this year I’ll try and keep myself warm and cook dinner at the same time.
I think it works great. Doesn’t small like the torpedo heater does and takes up less room.

what about wood burning stove? my dad has a 3000sq/ft garage and has a wood burning stove with some duct work and it keeps the garage around 65* all winter.

that is if you feel like going to chop up wood

Not too familiars with a wood burner…how small do these get? I’d like to take up as little space as possible…hoped to be able to mount it higher up on the wall if I could.

$79 sounds nice…have you noticed if they still stock these?

Thanks for the replies:) It’s refreshing to have a post on NYSpeed where people actually offer advice and we can learn something…as well as keeping away from the feeling of being in highshool all over again with bs drama:P

I want a solution that runs off used motor oil… but they’re really expensive I’ve been told.

theres plans for DIY oil burners all over the intraweb

original version of the design is linked at the bottom

Reznor (gas) heaters are nice.

I love my torpedo heaters. Good to go in 15 minutes after ignition and they don’t need to be constantly run. Soild wall of heat. Downsides: loud and you want to shut them off after a while to clear your head from the fumes :bloated:

i rocked one last year. 2.5 car garage. it was great for heat. Unfoprtunatlly it was SUPER directional, noisy, fumey, and sooty (with K1 kero).

this year, propane.

And, for AWD, what to do if I have a natural gas grill? :burnin:

I have one that looks very similar but it is 250,000BTU and it gets so hot in my 3-1/2 car garage it will make you sweat. I bought it from Northern Tool Supply but you can get them many places. I highly recommend it.

we have the same one lol

i just wanted to add in this, with the wood burners a really good idea to do if your running it alot is to put a big pot of water on the stove while its burning. we have a wood burner out at our hunting cabin and if u keep burning the wood, the air gets dry as fuck but with the water boiling it is kept at a comfortable air mixture thing. once again im pretty sure this is only if ur doing it for a long time

propane kills.

this thing cranks out so much heat but after a few modifications like a fan and bottle heater we trippled its effitency.
