Whats “good” money…

Does that make up for the fact you are picking up garbage? and when others ask what you do you get to say garbage man? You are working outside all summer and all winter…sounds fun :bloated:

Garbage men around me make 75K a year

That’s pretty fucking good if you ask me.

farmers tan ftw!

Some people have other values in life : it’s called doing what you need to do to provide for yourself.

People will hate on any job out there.

You may be a porn star / prostitute, but live in a mansion and drive any car you want, yadda yadda.

You may pick up garbage, but if it is a good living why the fuck not?

“Oh, you pick up garbage? What a shitty job.” says the people who probably won’t make 2/3s of what you do.

I’d rather pick up garbage and make good loot than work retail or deliver pizzas. (sorry jam.)

word, and for people that are not smart and cannot hack a job where you need a certain level of education, it is one of the next best things. My buddy is a garbageman in NYC and makes more than cops and firefighters in the city.

I dont know man, I dont think I could stomach it. I bet you throw up everyday when your a new guy.

I can just imagine the smells/gross things you deal with daily. :iobarf:

x1000

as long as you’re happy and can provide yourself with a decent living, fuck everyone else. You can laugh all the way to the bank

Obviously no one caught the special on the needle collection plan in the city…Seems garbage workers and other people are getting hurt on needles that drug users and other people were throwing into normal garbage…

Hey its usually 80%+ humidity 2-3 months out of the year in Buffalo…and cold as fuck and raining the rest…If you like being outside all the time rock on…

Maybe this would be a good money maker short term…but I guarantee your body is going to take a beating from this I have a friend who does this…

I like you and all… but do you really feel that your job defines your place in life?

I play cards with a guy every week. He makes 6 figures, owns a high 6 figure house, and always has vehicles that are younger the 2 model years old, is paying for two kids in Canisius, and is shopping ~40’ boats for next year.

Does it really matter what he does from 8 til 5?

He’s been a plumber for ~25 years.

edit - this was typed up before your last reply.

You’re comparing a unskilled laboring job to a skilled job…

You can set aside my comment on living with the fact your a garbage man and think about all the other negative aspects of the job…

Weather
Heavy lifting
Coming in contact with god knows what

There are so many other career paths you could go down…People get into jobs like this because they make “ok” money and then stick with it the rest of their lives…yay!

word. posted before I read your reply.

75k around you?

Whats that 35k in Buffalo?

lol, half of buffalo would be happy to make 35k.

I know 2 garbage men, one lives in Long Island and makes a good buck and only works till noon. Also one of my neighbors here in buffalo is a city garbage guy, I think he makes maybe 35K but gets out before noon everyday. I used to wonder what the guy did because he had a race car and some nice stuff but I would never see him gone at work

I think both of them bust there ass to get their routes done by the afternoon. Its a tough dirty job that I do not want.

even if it pays good… what do you get promoted to? it’s not like your gaining skills over time.

driver

I think the point / question at debate is just that…

what do you need to develop skills for if you have everything you need and you’re living comfortably?

Yeah, um, hi? He’s talking about something to help get him through college, not a career. He’s made it clear on here before that he’s not exactly a trust fund baby. He’s looking for something to keep the money flowing while he’s gaining skills to do something better. If he was a chick he could strip. But he’s a dude so picking up garbage is a decent option.
