well then if all of you feel you have it so damn bad why not do something about it?
people love to complain, but prefer to sit back when it comes time to take action.
IMO, “people in power” are not a good representation of the nation as a whole. We are supposed to have the power, not the people in D.C., but how have we seen that? Laws are being passed, like the Patriot Act that directly suppress the supposed freedoms that we get to enjoy. Next year the “Homegrown Terrorism” bill is going to be passed. This act will be able to take things you say and consider you a terrorist. The current administration cares nothing about the Constitution or the laws that it upholds. We are a laughing stock for doing what we are doing. Have you ever watched BBC? They constantly talk down about the U.S. for going into Iraq. The government of the U.S. is currently a joke and they are playing games with everyone’s lives except for theirs and their families.
are you saying that public is powerless to influence the government?
that the elected officials in the house and senate don’t care about what their constituents say?
or is it because most of the public just doesn’t do a damn thing about it?
to clarify - I’m not attacking you here, I’m just trying to see your outlook on the issue in more detail.
im sure u guys all watch cnn and msnbc as well… biased journalism FTL.
Honestly I think it’s a combination. It’s not that we are powerless to effect government, we are just given very little choice. I mean, we basically have to choose between 2 people to lead our nation every 4 years and we get no say when it comes to electing many other top officials. Also, when the presidential election is split 51/49 either way it’s hard to please the majority, you know? Also, people are either too lazy or don’t care or don’t have enough time to care about whats going on with their government. I believe that the top officials (president, vp, head of CIA, secretary of defense, etc) have very little regard for the laws that the Constitution dictates.
Every form of journalism is biased, you just need to gather many point of views before you make your opinions.
I posed my post as a question for clarification? I didn’t mean to assume just not sure what you meant.
I have no political affiliation as well.
What would you like me to do? I go to work, pay my bills, and vote. I live in NY so even IF I wanted to vote Republican, it would be pointless.
Besides, Florida proved that your vote doesn’t count.
Interesting that you left out FoxNews out of that list.
Oh come on… the only station that originally reported GWB winning Florida… no way!!
yes, because i feel fox news is more accurately reporting the facts rather than being politically biased towards one demographic or having a political agenda.
it may seem like a chicken/egg deal, but i think in this case it’s the proverbial chicken, i.e. the public.
most officials that get elected without the public are elected by those elected by the public.
from what I’ve seen, groups of people that really press the government about an issue usually get their way.
hey someone that agrees with me! :crackup
Are you serious about Fox News reporting facts?? Yeah, maybe facts that support the current administration positively. And to Oleg, there are a lot of groups out there that have not and will not get their way (IE couples wishing for gay marriage rights)
gotcha.
yeah, I always thought that after afganistan going to iraq was just part of the plan to divide up and subjugate the middle east that is ebing viewed as a threat.
ironically, states created that threat themselves in order to dismantle ussr earlier.
there is also voting for state and public officials, most people don’t even know about it.
their sole purpose it to represent the state and bring up the issues of state constituents.
most people don’t even know who they are, let alone vote for them.
Travis, did you seriously just post on one of your names and reply acting as a different person with the other?
What are we? In highschool?

Really? Just about every person I know feels that Fox News is slanted…
I vote for that as well but since moving to NYC, I am uninformed about the candidates to be honest.
