Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) iPad will be available at more than 2,000 Verizon Wireless stores starting Oct. 28, the companies said, making it the latest outlet to offer the hot-selling product.
The announcement follows renewed reports last week that Apple is readying a version of its iPhone for Verizon Wireless, jointly owned by Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and Vodafone Group PLC (VOD, VOD.LN). The wireless service provider has made strides of late in catching up with high-tech consumer gadgets, increasing its smartphone offerings with a steady rollout of Droid phones running Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android software.
Verizon will offer iPad Wi-Fi models on a standalone basis as well as a monthly data plan. It’s also bundling the iPad with its mobile broadband device. It is currently only available with wireless service with AT&T Inc. (T) in the U.S.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) said earlier this week it will start selling the iPad Friday at hundreds of stores throughout the U.S. It landed the tablet computer later than two of its largest retail rivals–Best Buy Co. (BBY) has been selling the iPad since its launch in April and Target Corp. (TGT) started offering it earlier this month.

That’s pretty confusing since the WSJ article said nothing about a mi fi being involved…I thought they were referring to some type of aircard but iPads cannot has normal accessories.
i think the problem is that for some reason, WSJ REALLY wants to hype up this iphone/vzw thing so they may be twisting things around to make it sound like the iphone is coming. Either that or their journalists don’t know their asses from their elbows.
and ugh. i dont want that crappy apple stuff. it brings in people who think they are a lot more pretentious than they are. the apple bandwagon is the worst known to man, possibly second to the civic hb crazy of the mid 2000’s…
If I could think of one good reason why I need one of these, I would consider purchasing one. I have an Ipod touch, a laptop and a droid x. What more do I need this for?
After using a friend’s Ipad for an extended time I decided for $200 I would buy one. It’s just great for that random surfing you do around the house. It’s boots instantly (unlike a laptop) and it’s screen is huge compared to any smartphone. But at their current prices I just can’t justify owning one since I have an iPhone 4 and a laptop.
Well my brother has one and I have played around with it, but that’s my problem as well. For the price they are going for, I couldn’t justify buying one. It doesn’t do anything that I already can do with one of my other gadgets. Until I find a reason I need it, Ill wait until prices come down.
Your wife isn’t going to take it very well when you decide to hitch the house up to your BMW and tell her your going west to see the grand canyon in all its glory.

I kind of agree with this. After buying my 3G at the Apple store I honestly felt dirty. In fact for the 4 I did the AT&T store pre-order and had it mailed to my house just so I wouldn’t have to go to the Apple store again. But the phone itself I really do love. I tried to love the Evo 4G, even spending a whole day where I swapped my iphone 4 with a friend’s evo when we took our kids to Fantasy Island, but it always felt like a not quite right knockoff of an iPhone to me.
