CLIFFS: Don’t casually mention auto-x to your insurance provider:
Ahh, unfortunate.
A friends father many years back had the warranty voided on his new RX8 after they found out he did a track day.
The real question is, why would you let them find out? lol
It was in the link. He called a while back to add coverage for his extra wheels, got talking cars with the agent, and mentioned autocrossing. That got saved in his file and more than likely when someone in underwriting went looking for a reason to drop the kind of person who files claims over a 4" scratch they found just what they needed. If you’re going to use insurance to cover minor things make sure you have nothing in you file they can drop you for.
Yeah, I read that… but WHY would you even do that? lol
More of a general statement and a warning to us all. I plead da FIFF.
Subaru use to give out free SCCA memeberships.
The question is what happens if you have a Mustang and let insurance know that you go to car meets?
he actually claimed in his thread that he thought he could procure a discount for autocrossing
They should just assume you go to car meats if you own a Mustang.
what a moron. I read part of the article and he sounds like a whiny douche. Of course your insurance is going to drop you for being involved with racing, even if it is low speed in a parking lot. You can still zong a curb. Read the terms of the coverage
I see what you did there. (I have a flare for the obvious.)
Meh, seems like a good reason to take your business elsewhere unless you’re legitimately committing fraud, at which point, your insurance is definitely going to drop you anyway at some point.
I did the exact same thing when I was like 18. they offered additional coverage for aftermarket parts so I opted for it, then get a call asking for some extra details and they dropped me for mentioning the dunnville events. hard lesson learned. They obviously used the additional coverage offer to drop a ton of clients.
Don’t trust insurance companies and tell them nothing more than they need to know…or less.
And then when you do wreck your car at the track, make sure you tow it somewhere else so they cover it. It’s not fraud if you don’t get caught!
1-2-3-4- fifffff
In that case only North Carolina and Mississippi can drop Mustang owners from their policies.
Well, I mean he wasn’t wrong. He got a 100% discount.
Ugh
let me call my insurance and tell them I race my car, then get butt hurt when I get dropped.
nice work.
His big argument is that he can’t figure out why he can’t race his car, he quoted it in every section. “Used in and preparing for…” Modifying your car can be seen as preparing for a racing event.
Insurance companies aren’t dumb, im sure cars like wrx, brz, evo’s etc… All have red flags attached to them when they are insured.
I know auto cross is a very mild form of racing, so lesson learned. Don’t do stupid shit
I read the title too fast and first saw “Geico drops guy OFF for autocrossing” and thought, well isn’t that cool of Geico for supporting autocrossing
:oj:
lol. Autocross is driving around cones in the UB parking lot correct?
At least thats what it was last time I did it probably 10 years ago.
If he really wanted to stick it to them he could always wreck said car on a public road on 6/21/2016
