URGENT: Insurance problem inside. Need new agent that covers turbo cars

So, due to concerns that if I happen to get into an accident in the focus, i decided to see if Geico had options to insure additional equipment/mods/etc…

There indeed was a section. So i put in my wheels and stuff like that, and then in a field titled “other” i put in turbocharger, and amount of $3000.

Geico just called and has DROPPED MY POLICY! apparently they refuse to insure any vehicle that is modified. I have until the end of the week to find a new carrier.

So my problem is this. I now have to find an insurance company that will insure my car with the understanding that I on occasion attend a sanctioned track event, and will cover the car…hopefully at a reasonable price or the focus is getting put in storage till im 25…

So who has a modified car that has it covered in their insurance? what company do you use?

i have coverage but they dont know its modified … you kinda dont tell them about that

lol

nice try, bottom line is no one will insure your turbo/add ons without paying $$$$ which is just really not worth it

great, so basically…I should get liability only because its not covered anyway

Just get regular insurance, hope that no one catches on to the turbo, and take the hit on the mods if you ever get into an accident. The difference between what you’d get parting them out and what you’d get from insurance isnt worth the crazy premium you’d have to pay.

ugh, im just really pissed…I thought i was doing the right thing here and now im dropped. I guess I’ll be visiting an agency this week. FUCK

Liability and Comp only… NEVER tell them about mods like that… if you do crash it, buy it back and part it out… that’s the best way unless you’re talking some crazy car and you want to blow tons of $$ in insurance and only be allowed to drive it to/from events with mileage limitations…

thanks guys, hopefully geico doesnt black list me

never tell them about mods x2

and I can’t believe you want to tell them about track days… you must be crazy.

they will only “black list” threw geico

No conventional carrier insures for track days. You smash it up, you pay for it unless you pay for an additional policy from a specialty company. Basically the rule of thumb at the track is, if you cant afford to smash it up and walk away from it, dont track it.

i just dont understand why its so frowned upon to participate in a LEGAL, sanctioned, event in a safe environment as opposed to being a retard on the streets.

did you really think insurance companies would do anything at all in your favor? Lol.

+1 for just getting normal coverage and taking the hit on mods if anything happens.

Because you shouldnt be driving like that period and if you are “pushing your car to the limit” what are the odds at some point you cross that limit into the “OH FUCK I RAN OUT OF TALENT” zone. Yeah, pretty good, which means it’s likely they will have to payout on a claim.

they’re both dangerous and put you at an increased risk of an accident, the difference is that it’s illegal to race on the street, there for they give the you benefit of the doubt.

that sucks man  hopefully your rates with geico were high, look at it on the bright side

I guess I understand that…But I would pay a higher rate if it was covered…

I suppose I am a retard…

Insurance is a BUSINESS not a charity?

I was paying $467.50 for TWO cars for six months…I am 22yrs old

I handle claims for an insurance company and you NEVER tell them about track days. They will drop you in a heartbeat.

About the mods. I know you can have an endorsement added to your policy to cover them, but I dont know which company will supply that coverage.

Try talking to a State Farm agent. They might have some answers for you. Otherwise I am insured by Progressive and I know they offer some coverage for aftermarket parts, but I dont know it what detail.

Edit: Check with an insurance broker as well. They have contacts with many insurance companies. Word of advise though. Verify you understand what you are signing as I have seen people that thought their mods were covered, only to get **** on when it was time to make a claim re: their mods because the coverage they purchased wasnt really for their mods. You may have to list the mods individually to have them covered.
