Ugh…
This is god damn awesome.
Did you end up contacting Thatcher for the Kinesis parts? He took good care of me when I had my K58s that I rebuilt.
I’ve bought some stuff from him over the past 2 years, and purchased some used stuff from a few other sources. He recently got a new source for new Kinesis parts that were previously unavailable, which is good for those of us with unobtainium wheels like supercups.
I couldn’t find center caps for my K58s for the life of me because they were 5x100 and the smaller cut out.
Just what the hell is going on with this exhaust set-up? It sounds amazing!! Not sure if you’ve mentioned it previously, but what are the specs?
Filthy
Right, but is the muffler a one-off hand fabbed piece? Off the shelf? I thought I saw somewhere this is a single 4" set up?
It’s a set of one-off long tubes, which had a bunch of stupid bull shit going on that @BREETIME fixed for me, including making the collectors fit and making the 3" outlets not suck and I can’t thank him enough for the work he did. Combined with the exhaust he built for it, which is twin 3" into a Y, and a single 4" to the back with a small can that he built.
It’s a work of art, and probably my favorite individual component of this build.
LOVE this car. I’ve always pondered the idea of LSx’ing my M3 as well, but since the S54 is still going strong, there’s no chance of that yet (prolly just jinxed myself). I’ve been wanting to LS swap something for a while now, and since I love just about everything BMW, that’s the route I’d go.
If you don’t mind sharing, what is the approximate cost of the swap (not including the tranny/Tilton/etc)? PM me if that’s better for you, but just looking to get an idea about it. I’d like to turn my current M to a full track-day car, and get one w/ a cleaner shell for street use. I’m curious to see if it’d be more cost effective to find one w/o motor/trans and LS it.
Also, whereabouts you live? Any chance this would pass OBDII? Not smog, but just the scan check.
Got to head down to Club Loose’s Opening Moves over the weekend, was nice to get behind the wheel, especially since I finally have most of the bugs sorted out. Throttle issue is 100% fixed, it was a PCM that had to be replaced. I was very rusty after not having really driven in 4 years, but started to pick it up in the afternoon. Here is a video of my 4th run of the morning before my GoPro died, going to hardwire them into the car so this doesn’t happen again.
Knocked some body panels off in the mud.
Still have LOTS of learning to do on a new platform and looking forward to more seat time.
Car got very very very muddy. But got cleaned including the underbody when I get home. Small list of things to change/fix before next time out, but I’m incredibly excited to be driving again and had a ton of fun.
Thanks. I’m not going to give the details of my costs. If you did your own work, add up the cost of parts you want to use and then add a percentage on top. There is an LS e46 kit out there now, but I have no idea about canbus implementation for the gauges, hvac, abs, and related systems.
I have no idea about OBDII, I didn’t research it and it has no relevance to what I did. I’m in NY state near Rochester currently.
Nice, can’t wait to see you drive this in person
 good stuff!
Some media from the past week:
Car was fun on slicks at TMP, didn’t make any changes from drifting other than putting good tires on. Lots still on the table with this car, but it’s coming along each time I take it out.
Did you get to chase down that mclaren?
It’s nice to see you are out enjoying the work you put into it!!!
X…
Not really Josh, I took it easy the first couple laps warming up tires while they went out hard and then GT3 spun off. Would have been fun though. Xander, was the most fun I’ve had in the car all year.

I wonder how often that McLaren goes, I’m assuming it’s the same one I saw there back in July.
