Girls car is back under the knife.

We wired up all the cobalt digital gauges and the LC1 wideband stuff. Wired up the fule pump relay, new alt. and starter wires. added a new ground to the motor. Attached all the engine wires and clips, only found 2 that I dont know WTF they go to! lol. Ran the vac line to the distro block and sent everything where it needs to go and plugged the rest up. Decided against the catch can, and just tee’d them up and put a breather on the shit. Welded up a POS coolant car, it came out like balls and will be replaced over the winter… it works for now. Ran all the coolant lines, which was fun. I dont have heat, so i pinched the crack pipe closed and welded it up and capped the return line to the head, the rest was ran fine. There will be alot of wire clean up to to later but everything is where it needs to go to make it run. I turned the rotors and put new pads on so I have brakes again. Biggest bummer was someone (me) left the gasket off the t-stat, which we found out when I filled it with coolant! what a pain in the ass to get to with the front clip back in! fix that in about 30 minutes… FYI 1/4" ratchet, LONG extension, 10MM socket and a universal is NEEDED, 3/8"s is too big… once I figured out the right position it wasnt that bad.

Found a nice APC, lol, air filter that fit PERFECT on the turbo. 4 inch inlet and it was a short cone shape and was only 4" tall! I lucked out big time on that find.

Pulled the plugs and disconnected the oil feed to the turbo to prime the oil system. It took a while to get oil to come put… like a good 40 seconds of cranking… log enough to make me think I forgot to put the chain on the oil pump! lol. eventually it dumped oil so I connected it back up and was good to go.

Went to prime the fuel line, and found out that you only get one prime cycle from the in tank per key in the igntion. you have to take the key OUT of the ignition and put it back in and turn it to on to get it to prime again. not just on off, on off… so once I got the air out, I put the fuse in the walbro pump and I was good to go. But I also found out, well confirmed that the gas that was in the tank for the last year was nasty! even though I stabilzed it it was bad looking. But good enough to fire it.

One last check and we put the plugs in and reconnected the injectors. took 3 coughs and a little go pedal imput and it fired right up and idled decent. BIG relief! Had good oil pressure and no leaks anywhere! No exhaust on it yet, just a 3" DP, so it rattled the barn! The idle is a bit off, like it may be down a cyclinder. It sounds like I have a cam! I know it needs to adapt out and break in, plus I have the old plugs, who knows what coils I have on there I picked from 10 of them in my stash and it is shit gas so I am not too worried about it right now. It fired I am happy.

Tonight I am draining the tank and getting new gas, plugs and finishing up the new front rebar and hanging the heat exchanger and filling the WAIC. Adjusting the shift cables and putting the trans through some rotations. Need to bleed the slave cyclinder and the power steering system. throw a hanger on the DP and button it up a bit more to take it for a spin and put it on the VAG COM.

anyway… here it is…

all the work to shave teh bay and you put your fuel pump RIGHT there :.facepalm.:

thanks, you said it for me.

I could have stuck it under the car, but I would still have to put the FPR under the hood somewhere. so i put them all in one place. Not to mention I would have to run alot more -6 through the frame to get back there. then at that point I would be better off running an intank pump and all braided to the front, then it would be better to get a fuel cell so I dont have under 1/4 tank issues with the drop in and stock tank…

More money, not enough time. so this works for me.

i have an intank, and i can go down to the light… just dont be stupid and floor it around a turn with low fuel…

Nope. serial

yeah you have another text on its way… If you are around after work i could use ti tonight if you can meet me somehow.

We will see. Honestly, this was my first complete build ever. I did/am learning alot and having fun in the process. I dont know why you seem to think that I didnt take your advice on the O2M??? I never once said you were wrong or that my O2J will be bullet proof or that I wont see any problems with it… Actually I hope that my craftsman shit skills work for what the o2j is worth, what ever it may be. I have a feeling that it wont stay together, for many reasons… mostly since I am hard on ANYTHING I ever built, and I break alot of parts on all my toys so we will see. If I take it out tomorrow and break it in and I snap an axle or something I will admit it and take your “I told you so”. It is no big thing. And maybe some day I will go o2m who knows… right now I need it done and I need to put money into my sled to have something to do over the winter.

Power goals, are just them a goal. since it is my only build I have completed, I am still only bench racing. :banghead

holy old school!!

yeah man, O2J’s like to shear gears when traction happens, as well as break axles. you could buy the Raxles for it, and not break them, but then youve still got gears to worry about. the O2M is just a much stronger unit, bigger diff, bigger gears, bigger clutch, better sliders/shift collars, better release bearing design. and IMO better gearing with a BT car, keeps the car in the power easier. and in 6th still can return awesome MPG.

Yeah i hear you totally, next year/post 02j disaster will be time for 02m… but right now aint the time for it. I need a track and skiis for the sled for wintar

mike i cant find my goddam vagcom. still looking but i’ll letcha know

YOU BETTER FIND IT or I’ll… :ahh

laduke has to work tonight so i cant get mine back. :banghead

no worries cable was found. codes were scanned. car is now idleing perfectly. cant wait to see her rip… maybe tomorrow right mike!!!

HELL YAHH.

Big Thanks to Elliot and Jim for stopping by for the extra hands in the garage last night till 12:30!.

I had a whole host of codes when we fired it again last night. They were cleared and once the motor chilled out and idled until it was up to opperaiting temp they stayed away. Engine shows great oil pressure and everything looks fine. Coolant system/bottle I cobbed up needs some help though. The cap is a 14-16psi cap… and I guess the vw system is a much higher pressure so i need to find another cap.

We welded up the mother of all rebars for the front end. I cut the plates off the old one and welded in a 2"X2" 1/4" thick tube with some gussets on the ends for a better weld to the VW rebar plates I reused. I then mounted the 3/4" square tube frame I made to hold the heat exchanger for the WAIC setup. Shit is legit, and will take a hit and shrug it off… it is strong. Were 3 pipe clamps short but plumbed and wired the WAIC system just need to clamp the last hose and add water.

Tonight we need to bleed the slave cyclinder, check the PS res and plug the coolant over flow port someone blew a hole in upon construction. Swap some wheels and tires and throw the rear pads and rotors on.

It RUNS!!!

First off I want to thank everyone who lent a hand. BIG thanks to my friend Corey for letting my shit collect dust in his barn, and for losing his tools left and right becaue I am a mess and crawling under the car for hours on end with me! Also big props to my brother Kevin for putting in countless hours in too, he would be the first one in the garage many times, and for all the parts runs at the last min. too! Thanks to Jim for making the haul to my house a bunch of times and helping out too! Your the man. Also thanks to Bret for all the suggestions on parts and problem solving along the way too. As much as we bump heads, you still know your shit from time to time :rofl and I want to say thanks for steerign me into the right directions.

OK enough of the homo talk. We finished up some cooling system mods and put coolant back in it and fired it up. Coolant temp never went over 190, even the oil temp went down alot from routing the lines better. Oil temp is 194 max, and pressure is great too. Fuel pressure is great and very adjustable from the Aeromotive regulator, it is around 48psi at the rail and under full boost 12.1 to 12.3 @ 16PSI boost. The water to air IC setup is SICK. the charge pipes are ICE cold and even after romping on it a bunch of times the coolant in the system is still ice cold too! Yeah I know its only 50deg out but still… so far so good. The only code I am getting is the Air Intake Temp signal too high… and it causes a bouncy idle at times. Other than that, with the low boost and a baseline tune it rips. 3rd gear pulls like a freight train and just starts to break loose around 5500 or so. I cant wait for it to break in, get tuned and bump up the boost! It needs an alignment BAD, the wheel is cranked to the left about 1/4 turn and it is a little twitchy at high speed. Other than that some clean up and other crap needs to be finished but isnt a rush.

Also got my first kill last night. This guy had about 800HP and a GIANT turbo!!! But he was also 53’ long, hahaha. A truck driver pulled next to me at a light and was power breaking it spooling up and twisting the cab, and I have to hand it to him he cut a great light! lol I blew by him tires at about 120 and me moving around 60… lol he flashed his lights at me for alittle thumbs up.

Pics and vids coming this weekend if it is nice out.

sweet i got thanks for eating taco bell! lol.

It runs, and you have only been pulled over twice in three night not bad. Just wait till the speeding tickets start.

You we for moal support and the lulz factor… it worked out well for everyone.

Yeah thanks for bringing down my insurance papers to I could drive my pile back home.

Here is the story, first night I took it out, I blew a charge pipe first pull. then over heated it, and pulled a u-turn with my hazards on infront of the trooper. Keep in mind I have no hood, front or rear bumpers, 3" dummped exhaust and no inspection. She just wanted to make sure I was ok and didnt need help! lol

Last night, I passed a cop that pulled someone over, I put it in nutral and coasted by them. about half a mile past I put it back in gear. The next stope sign I get to, I rolled out in second and boosted it for lulz, didnt even speed, just spun really. mile down the road I get lit up. At this time I had all my stuff back on the car, but no exhaust still. I told him I cant shut it off i need to let it cool down, lol. He thought I was a “loud sporty car” that stole gass not to long ago down the road! lol. the two cops that came were cool as hell. they liked the “driver is gay”, "this is a slow car’, the boobies and the naked chick drawn into the dust on the windows! hahah Then asked me about the car and everything. Gave me a inspection ticket and one for not having my insurance papers in the car, and for not being registered. My insurance is valid but wasnt in the car, registration I have no idea how it expired since it has to stay on the road becasue i owe money on it and you cant insure it without a reg… so I have to fix that on monday. it was all good, we all had a bunch of lulz and the cops were funny as hell cracking jokes and all with me and my brother and CRD. They said just print the insurance papers, "try’ to get it inspected and fix my reg and bring them to the station and he will take care of it for me.

hahaha yea i got bored and wrote shit on your windows in the bondo dust… :lol

AWESOME! It finally runs. Mike, when we going for a spin?

Once the summit order comes in with my cat, muffler and other little shit so I can reliably drive it to work without gettign pulled over or going deaf. LOL
