So, I used to play casually a few years back with an old shitty set of clubs my uncle gave me. I went to the range a few times this week just to get the feel of things again and i have been searching for a used, decent set of craigslist/Ebay. A friend of mine’s sister plays semi pro and is sponsored by Ping and i guess has 100’s of clubs hanging around but being shes a lefty and 5’2 that cant help at all. Im trying to learn a bit about which type of club set is right for me. Ive read that beginers should buy a 3/5/7 iron, a good driver and a putter. just looking on ebay ive found a few nike and ping sets with multiple clubs for $100-$200 which isnt much. The main issue here is finding the right length and type of club to purchase. Im right handed, 5’10 if that helps at all. Any info is helpful, thanks.
90% of clubs made should fit you, if for whatever reason you find a good set and they are to long or short, it’s simple enough to bring them to a golf shop and have them re-shafted. plus depending on your swing speed you might be better off with a graphite shaft as i would think your swing speed doesn’t warrant a steel shaft. a place like exit 8 golf could take care of that for you, plus you would be able to pick out a grip that better fits your hands natural hold of the club.
The big thing you want to look for in a set of irons are “cavity backs” which would look something like this
they are more forgiving and have a much better feel for someone who only casually plays then a “blade” style of irons
for a driver, try to find something that is slightly newer, 1 to 3 years old at most, this will insure the face is still in good shape, and that you are getting some of the new technology.
putting is all about prefference so find a putter that you like, and that feels comfortable and you’ll be all set

Good info…I’m in the same boat. Only play once or twice a year, but need to get my own set.
Just buy a 7 iron and a 3 wood. That’s all you need, just avoid sand traps and you’ll be good to go
Get another job nick.
I start a new one tuesday.
