Goodbye Toledo, Hello Pittsburgh

Hello all, I’m Robert, and I’ve just moved to the area from Toledo Ohio. Recent grad from OSU (majored in mechanical engineering). I’m 23 and drive a 1992 Mercedes 400E with a little over 200,000 miles on her. Still runs great, and I keep good care of her. I figured I’d join these forums since I’m new to Pennsylvania and not familiar with the area.

One question… in Ohio our cars don’t need inspections. I was glancing over what all gets inspected in Pennsylvania, and am concerned that my car will fail simply because it doesn’t have a muffler. However, the car is very quiet, in fact quieter than a lot of cars with factory exhausts. Is the inspection based on a dB level, or just the presence of a muffler? Thanks!

State visual inspection will most likely require a muffler to be present.

yes, muffler required for inspection. but car will pass sniffer without a muffler

Welcome. Did you get a job in Pittsburgh? or grad school next?

I managed to get a job working for an engineering consulting firm. I’m really happy about it. There is nothing in Toledo, mostly because Detroit’s 15% unemployment is rubbing off on all surrounding areas.

Thanks for the info on the inspection. Looks like I’ll need to put on a muffler. Bummer.

and here’s a quick pic of my car:

welcome.

Nice Merc! Welcome to Pittsburgh.

If you drive under 5000 miles you can get an exempt sticker and they don’t do a visual inspection. -No cat 5 years running-

Good bye tully do. welcome

Welcome. Cool Merc. My cousin has a 300E that he has been fixing up. It’s a really nice car, but had some minor flaws.
