in my opinion, i wouldnt call your ins company, the less they know, the better your coverage/rate…call the other party’s insurance, and take it to a body shop. your best bet for the exhaust is to have them quote it enough to cover everything you want
a lot of insurance companies have direct repair programs with shops, meaning that the customer comes to the shop gets an estimate and the insurance company sends us a check and we fix the car off of our estimate, and an adjuster doesn’t come out to look at the car. thats with a few insurance companies, but most come in for an estimate and then call their insurance company and the estimates are usually similar and we work off of the rates of the insurance company.
again, the insurance adjuster is going to do their homework and look the car over before they agree to pay anything. The adjuster will most likely tell the shop how to fix it, not the other way around. Sadly, this is how the collision business works these days (with most insurance companies. The small companies may just go by a shop’s estimate). Insurance companies got smart and realized that it was too easy for shops/customers to take advantage of the system. He will likely ONLY get away with OEM replacements. Sucks, but that’s the chance you take when driving around with $3k worth of metal hanging off the back of your car.
If it was me I’d start by going through the other driver’s insurance without contacting my insurance company. See how they want to handle it, don’t sign anything or accept any check and see if they’re going to cover your damages. If you’re not satisfied with how they handle it or they take more than a few days and a polite phone call with them doesn’t resolve it then I’d get my own insurance involved.
ugh the other driver should have hit you a bit harder so you can replace those hideous tails you have.
btw didnt you have a knockoff of the Eisenmann setup anyway?
YAY another collision thread full of misinformation!!!
Its only a hammer and a swing away. lol
Im all set, His insurance accepted 100% liability and it will be getting fixed at schmidts on broadway while im on vacation next week…
The other driver had already reported the accident
good to hear, i left work after i went on a tow call after you left. liberty mutual is pretty good about everything
that’s good to hear, since i’ll be stopping by schmidts tomorrow and the insurance of the other driver is also liberty mutual.
Man that sucks, glad you got it all straightened out tho.
Ugh, sorry to hear about this. I’m glad to hear that everything is getting taken care of and it wasn’t more serious…
i have progressive on my motorcycle and car…do they suck dealing with when there’s an accident?
They were like $2000 a year cheaper than geico and state farm for the car…and way cheaper with the bike too.
Walter is just a prick.
I’ve had progressive on my car and motorcycle since I was 16, never had any issue with them at all, as well as when my bike got totaled on NFB, they handled the case quick and without a hitch.
He’s just grumpy he’s paying out the ass for some “real” insurance.
What are they doing about your aftermarket mufflers?
Hahahaha
File a claim with the other drivers insurance carrier. Rear-ender should be no problem. Make sure they repair your car to before accident condition. This means that they will have to replace the exhaust parts they damaged without going to a different brand. No need to get an estimate, that is what the insurance company does. Make sure they give you a rental. Good job on calling the police, even though it was a simple rear end claim. Too many people dont call the police and get screwed.
Your deductible only applies if you use your own collision coverage. This should cost you nothing.
Dont bother calling your carrier. We do not fight with the other insurance carriers insurance for your benefit. You have the option of going through your own carrier or the other other driver’s carrier. Also, we would not write up an estimate unless you are making a collision claim. That is a waste of time for us.
The only time an insurance company would only pay you for OEM parts is if you are going through your own carrier and did not purchase a rider for extra coverage on a modified vehicle. If you did not do this, you are paying insurance on a stock vehicle and they will only pay to have it repaired to stock.
This is not so in the OP’s case. He was not at fault for the accident and the other driver’s carrier has to return his car to pre-accident condition. This means the same exhaust etc. You are correct in saying that insurance company will only pay off of our estimates. However, if something extra is needed or there is a supplement, they will take care of you. You must likely will have to submit receipts for the aftermarket parts.
I see that they already accepted liability and that is great, but a lot of mis-information in this thread.
And for those that are asking. Progressive and Allstate suck as insurance companies. They do not care about anyone they insure and are only out to make money. Companies such as State Farm usually try to really take care of their customers, but you will pay for it. You never know how good your insurance company is until you have a claim. They are all “great” until you really have to deal with them.
Also a note, I do not work for any company mentioned in this thread, so do not think that I am bias. These are observations working in the industry for the last 5 years.
Progressive is a high risk carrier… there is a reason young drivers get lower rates with them.
Pretty hilarious to say “my bike got totaled, it went real quick”
No shit Sherlock. The fucking thing got totaled.
Good luck when you need them to actually repair something…
ps - I’m going to have to start charging you rent for hanging out on my nuts so much, you must love the view
