Got Rear Ended tonight... Insurance questions

I got $2000 for my Corsa exhaust when my Corvette was rear ended, plus $600 for one tire that had a chunk ripped off. I didn’t replace either, lol, I bent the exhaust back into shape and smoked them tires off. Luckily my tips weren’t bent.

for serious…

call your insurer and get them to give you a couple options off their DRP (direct repair program) list.

Your insurer will subrogate with the other insurer for payment.

When you get to a shop that is recommended and one that you are comfortable with you can get the shop to do the work and then have your insurer pay you the cash difference for your exhaust. Just tell them that you will take this opportunity to get something other than OEM. They will pay you the value of the part on the approved estimate and possibly some of the labour too if you advise that you will do it yourself or through a trusted friend who owns a mechanical shop.

OR!!!..

Take your car to the BMW dealership and have them refer you to a shop. If your insurer gives you shit about it you tell them that a current model BMW M5 is not to be trusted to just any repair facility and that you expect BMW certified techs to do the work on the car so that your warranty, or extended warranty whether or not you have one, will remain intact.

Whether you go through your insurance or his your insurance company is going to find out so no point in hiding it. Just make sure you get the car fixed properly.

If you care to share specifics on your insurer and what they advise you of i can assist further.

FYI, i work for the head office of CARSTAR (the largest franchise network of collision centres in North America) in Canada and deal with every major insurance company on a national and sometimes international level for auto claims including the oversight of mediations for repairs that go wrong.

swoon!

The only problem with this is the OP will have to pay their deductible to go through their own carrier. Yes the OPs carrier will subrogate, but there is nothing solid that says they will get the deductible back. He is still at the mercy of the at fault parties carrier.

Otherwise, the OPs insurance may or may not pay for an aftermarket exhaust. Depends on the carrier and what mood the adjuster and upper management is in. Most times, they will not pay for it. Progressive does offer something like $1000-2000 for aftermarket parts. Not all carries do this and will typically only pay for OEM parts and not the aftermarket as that is not what you are paying to insure. If the OEM parts cost more than the aftermarket exhaust, that could work in the OPs benefit.

The advantage in going through the other carrier is not having to jump through these hoops to get the car fixed. Agreed that the OP can take the car whererever he wants to get it repaired. Liability is already set, and that is usually what delays claims. Hopefully the OP gets things taken care of quikly as repairs look fairly minor.

Walter, go fuck yourself.

What ended up happening with the muffler?

This is a no fault state. Your insurance pays everything, they deal with the recovery process. Thats why you pay for insurance.

How did this end up turning out?

Thats what I thought too^
