I was out tonight in the great weather we’re having, and trying to decide on where the EFF to eat. So, as the wife n me are rulin’ out restaurants along the way, we hit a red light. Not even thinking about getting a run in at this time, Im not even paying attention to this clean black '97-'04 vette next to me at the light. The wifey nudges me and says, “umm, you think he’ll wanna play?” I told her I didnt know given the surroundings and such. So, before I think of doing anything, I notice the driver (which was about in his 20’s, white, about my size I’d guess, red hair) glancing over at my car. I roll my car forward a few feet and stop again. He glances over again, and had the look of, “hmmm, that sure doesnt sound stock.” Which most vette owners dont give me or my car a 2nd look.
So, after what seemed like 20min. at this friggen light. It changes… he got on the gas mildly~agressive…I followed suit, when me got moving I punched right after he did, and he got about a half a car…THEN, I start to reeeeel him in (rather quickly too) and then REAL fast. So, I know he must have let off. He jammed the brakes I did too. I burried the nose in the pavement to peel off enough mph to get to the posted limit…and that was it. He stayed a good 60+yds back…until we got to a intersection. He was turning and had a open lane to do so…so as he coasted by he said something and I would “LOVE” to know what it was…I dont know if it was a, “good sport” comment, a “fu” or what.
I’d also like to get another run in if the person is on here and wants to say he won…or even if he says he lost…it ~seemed~ TO ME THAT my car had more power but, him hitting the brakes when I started to pull leaves me wondering.
So, if you’re on here…I’m good to go again if you want.
geeeez, my race must be lame, no one but mrk replied. ehh oh well. lol
seems like ur pretty quick nice to hear some fast gps are out there
nice dude:headbang:
Thanks guys! lol :pimp:
I wish that kid was on here. I’d like to get a ligit run in to see IF I would have reeled him in enough to call it a kill. I know I reeled him in FAST though.
That must be frustrating not being given the recognition from other fast cars especially if you’re looking to try humbling them. They do it to me too. I sometimes have to say things to them at a light to get them to run. One time at a light up in the Falls I asked this guy in a C5 if he thought his car was fast (I said it nicely, but I guess irrespective of how you present a question like that it kinda sounds a bit dick-ish). He said, “it sure as hell is!” I said, “nah, <shaking head> they’re really not that fast.” Light turned green and half way through 3rd he was 4 cars back.
The vette doods are primarily all dorks (in my experience, except for a very few) and they never usually never wanna dance. I don’t know if its because they’re scared of a ticket or because they think that their car is faster than the car next to them. They seem to believe they’re in a class of their own.
Most of the vette guys I’ve spoken with have the personality of a dead money’s balls IMO. Well, that’s the impression I’ve almost always gotten.
PS: if whatever he said to you wasn’t accompanied with a peace sign or a thumbs-up, I’d guess what he said wasn’t too nice of a comment. Hopefully you see him again…
Good job. . .I hope he’s on here so you guys can ‘race’ again, or debate about it.
It wasn’t my car, but my clutch is almost broken in, and I’d love to do some pulls with you man. Plus I drive a C5 so it would be just like doing this all over again. White kid early 20’s, etc…
Hell I’m even a prick in my own class, I usually don’t race any old car, but for you I’d make an exception!
I need some new rear rubbers but they should be in and on soon…but thats no excuse, I’d run on bald kumo’s
maybe they just don’t feel like racing on public streets? I dunno, when I had my vette I had fun, but I wasn’t looking to prove anything to random people on the street. Too much to risk when you don’t know what you’re dealing with. I think a lot of vette owners are proud of their car, worked hard for it and don’t want to risk damaging it with some punk on the street who wants to show that his car can hang.
That being said, I do know of Vette owners who think they are hot bananas too, but I think people Mod their civics, grandprixs, subarus, etc to beat cars like vettes. Just how it is…
I will also say that provoking racing with random cars on the street is lame and dangerous.
Since I’ve had sleepers almost as long as I’ve been driving I dont push it to get someone to race me (ESP. in a vette, or F body, mustang ect) HALF of those guys either dont know anything about how fast a small percent of GPs can be built, or too many idiot GP owners that think that since they have a supercharger under the hood, they can beat everyone.
I didnt really know if this kid would play. I didnt instigate that match at all, I just rolled forward a bit, but he didnt seem interested. I’d have to say though, he must have knew something was different with the exhaust tone, and lope my car has.
I just like being able to “defend” myself in a sense…the vette kid gets on it to “show me whos boss, and I respond to show him I an hang, or Im faster.”
Thats the fun of it. I dont go out to make people in performance built cars look stupid for getting beat by a GM family car. I’ll admit, I used to do that…kind of like making a point or something lame. I know their cars are usually worth more, have better resale, and usually have higher insurance, but I like taking a car that didnt come from the factory to handle or accelerate, build it to accelerate and handle and keep up or even be better than a fair amount of performance cars out there.
…I do get a bit of joy out of beating a guy in whatever perofrmance car that’s ego and head are too big to fit in the car. When they look at me like Im some idiot with a loud GP and then the look they have after I pull buse on them. Its fun too.

I almost never race random people in my car and i have a lame f-body it just isn’t appealing to me for the most part.
good stuff man. i stand behind you 100%, it’s so good to see someone who isn’t a dick. just as a lot of vette owners worked hard to get their ride, you worked hard as well to make a Grand Prix fast, and for that i give you credit. if more people had this mindset, the automotive world would be a better place to live in.
Thanks guys!
Yeah, maybe its my age…maybe its just my long experience within the automotive community. I respect anyone’s car that deserves respect, no matter what make and model it is. Just as long as its not a car with a wing bolted on, a loud can muffler and stickers on the car that the person bought in a pac from a parts store. I understand that I am not nearly the fastest car out there, and I know I’m not the slowest, and I have spend a fair amount of money to go as fast as that vette (that might have been stock) for all I know. But, thats what it is. Everyone is different. He can say, “well, Im stock, you put money into your car to beat me.” To each there own…Im not here to judge, or care to. If its fast, I dig it.
Next time he gets in front of ya, give him a love tap to let him know you’re coming.
And then in a race, do the same thing
Ha! fuggin Jack.
I can’t speak for all 'Vette guys, only what I’ve seen and what has happened to me in 4 years. I get challenged just about every time I drive the car. Sorry if I refuse to race you on busy streets posted at 30-40 MPH. Lots of driveways and side streets scare me. It’s not that I think I’m “in a class of their own”, just trying to use a bit of good judgement. I rear ended someone 20 years ago (when you were in diapers) and don’t want that sick, embarassed feeling ever again. It isn’t being disrepectfull of your car. I just can not do it every time some 16 year old in dad’s GT wants to run. Most Corvette owners that I know, and have met, will run. They just choose the time, place, and opponent very carefully. They know they are not faster than every other car out there. Most are sold on the way the car HANDLES when the wheel is turned at any speed, not just going fast and straight for short bursts. We know the car wasn’t built for street races. Alot of us admitt we’ve been smoked by Civics, Neons, Evos, Transmarobirds, etc. It doesn’t mean they’re “scared” of anything. Maybe the guy has a shit load of tickets already, or like me, has a commercial drivers license that wasn’t easy to get. It kinda bugs me that people will generalize about 'Vette owner way more so than owners of other cars. Why is that? Why don’t you recognize that you rarely see a dirty, or dented, or neglected, primered, etc. Corvette? We like our cars and don’t want to disrespect them like some people do their rides. I’ll run you, but lets try to do it when and where it’s fairly safe and sensible. End rant
I know the feeling, most people think I drive a old Monte Carlo! Same body but come on. Then again its fun when they think I have a 305 & thinking they are gonna crush me.
So, can we generalize about Vette owners or not? Does it depend on if you like the generalization? :lolham:
