There Is Grip, there is Drift. Now I’m sure this has been asked numerous amounts of times. But Sonlings must have the most in-depth knowledge of all humans. Now we all know grip is faster on those medium turns i.e. turn 0 at shannonville. But let’s say we are all professional racers and we want the best possible time on the track. If we could mix the two would it be faster? Let’s say we drifted turn four at Cayuga, or the last turn on both of shannonvill’s tracks (when Split) would it be better in the end?
no. lol grip all the way.
much less chance of fucking up too
Completely untrue. If you dont think so you just havent driven fast enough.
edit: i meant about the “fucking up” part"
wheel spin coming out of a fast turn doesnt equal drift.
the only way i believe it would be faster is if it was a very low speed turn and you were running stupid hp.
uhhh no clue
but wont road conditions make a big difference? ie. wet vs dry?
ohh edit lol and rally drivers… fastest time around corners =P
I agree… Only way it can be faster is at Low Speeds with silly amounts of power to get the lost speed back.
Hypocrite.
I’d say that the only time drifting would be faster is when it comes to driving off pavement for the most part. (I.e. Dirt and snow) Hence you see a lot of Rally cars drifting.
At the end of the day, grip will always be faster. If it wasn’t, F1 cars wouldn’t have ridiculously sticky tires and they’d be drifting every turn instead.
Anyways, just my opinion. Someone can call me out on this one.
Grip, and if you look at telemetry from anyone running a fast car they are getting wheel spin and driving at 1-5 degrees of slip angle in every turn.
combination drift grip… rally drivers perfect example …
on loose surfaces such as dirt or snow… anything else (wheel spin, smoke, angle) is a result of energy not being used to push the car forwards through the corner. thus making it slower
HMMM…
Grip 100% …
unless you are on such a tight corner that you have to change the steering angle of the car quickly…and can use the power to shift the cars position over and above what could be done with the steering input
basically none of the tracks that I have ever driven on…
thats not to say high slip angles in corners are not fast…but high slip angles are not drifting…
hahahahahahha
Yea grip is better but to each his own…
drift is just for show. grip 101% is definetely faster!
if you throw in just one factor you see drift iwll make your lap time fast maybe One lap.
Tires would be done so fast. Imagine f1 or other cars drifting, there would be a pit stop ever 5 min.
the only way i see any slip angle being good is rally status.
imo.
but drifting is a blast, need to have a good driver and car. FD guys kill it.
Loss of traction equals loss of time.
If you calculate how much earlier you need to slowdown before entering a U turn in grip in comparison to just throwing in a clutch kick and a hard downshift in drift, there is really no slow down period.
uhhh… wut?
