GTR cheap supercar?

To sum it up…the GTR is not made to be driven hard…if you do it breaks and the warranty is void…yep that is how I would define a supercar. :ugh:

GTR = most overrated performance car to be put out recently.

/thread

how in the hell is it overrated? its 71k list and can perform with most other “super cars”

imo, what makes a super car a super car is the fact that it can withstand the rigors of spirited driving. it may not be the best at drag racing, or road racing, or top speed. yet it can do all proficiently.

the gtr, if the tranny problems are as true as it sounds, is not quite on that level. nissan has to go back to the drawing board and figure out a tranny. imo, they need to revert back to the older tried and true trannys.

in addition, im not quite ready to put the new skyline into supercar status. To me, i would be like saying that a 93 supra and a 93 300zx are supercars. both were bad ass cars for the time–yet not supercar status. I dont see how the gtr of now differs from the japanese muscle from 93

F1 cars do have a manual clutch. It’s only used when pulling out from a stop, but they do have one.

  1. I have not seen one brand new within $10k of the sticker.
  2. The trannies are garbage. This has been proven time and time again. They are prone (and actually designed) to break. When that goes, tack on about $16,000 onto the bill for it to be replaced. (Don’t hold me to that price, I think that’s what I read.) There are multiple spaces in the back of the owner’s manual for tranny repairs/replacements.
  3. You cannot just replace the brake pads, as the rotors must be replaced as well. Tack on nearly $2,000 for that.
  4. If you use the launch control, the warranty is void. If you turn the traction control off, the warranty is void. If you open the driver’s side door too quickly, the warranty is void. (That’s an exaggeration, but the warranty this care comes with is the next thing up from useless)
  5. The link in the original post reviews the cost of the first scheduled maintenance.

Does it perform well? Sure. Is it worth $70k-$85k? No. “Supercars” are designed to handle a moderate amount of abuse (by moderate, I mean within reason). This car is said to fail under moderate abuse. No thanks.

Are you implying that other “supercars” like Ferrari’s and Lambo’s are maintenance free or even remotely reliable? I bet any “supercar” is a maintenance nightmare.

Nissan did mess up with the warranty shenanigans, but other than that it seems like a good car.

Maybe the GTR is not a “supercar” but it’s a lot more “supercar” than a corvette.

And just for good measure, i want to say “supercar” one more time. supercar

Ferrari’s and Lambo’s I’m sure cost plenty for maintenance. However, the people that can afford them can also afford the proper maintenance. GTR’s are supposed to be a budget “supercar.” Someone who is looking for a “supercar” on a budget is looking for the wrong vehicle. If you have the money for a GTR, and you also have the money to maintain one… I say just wait a couple years and buy a Ferrari.

no

It’s still a pile of shit, regardless.

thats been my point since my first post in this thread. you can call it a supercar or whatever you want. and you can say a vette is not but the vette performs as good or better and it doesnt have the ridiculous maintenece and warranty issues so therefor

Corvette ZR1/Z06 > GTR

unless of course you just want to impress ppl with having a supercar by name

ppl that bitch and complain that the maintence about a gtr obviously arent the ones who are going to buy one. but to call 1 a POS because of it is just pure BS.

basically everyone who is complaining about the car sound like 98% of the dsm community. want the car to be fast, but dont want to spend the money to get it there or keep it there.

^^ I agree. Any car capable of that kind of performance…isn’t going to be cheap. Pushing a car that hard breaks shit, doesn’t matter who makes it. Nissan made a great performing platform, while people said they couldn’t, and I don’t think they failed overall simply because of certain details

WTF are you talking about? I think a “supercar’s” transmission should be able to last more than 20 launches. A “supercar” should be able to be run with the T/C off and not have the warranty void. Point is Nissan made a vehicle with some serious flaws and they took the easy way out…yes it does perform awesome, but for how long before you have to drop $20k into b/c something that should hold up fails?

check other supercars and see what they cost to have stuff replaced is all i’m saying. everyone on here is basically ripping the car apart because of some flaws in the warranty, does that suck? heck yea it does, i would be mad as hell if i just bought a new car that has a “dont touch” button on it. but the facts are facts, this car costs no more to maintence then any other “supercar”

and where did you hear 20 launches? if thats the case thats pretty good, look at purpose built drag cars, they would love to have a tranny that can hold 20 launches, let alone be driven on the street all the time. i’m sure ferrari has the same problems with douche owners trying to be hardass’s breaking transmissions because they dont know how to drive and then they void there warranty.

i never hear of anyone with 911s, ZR1s etc having to replace trannys or anything out of the ordinary. Nissan put pages in the owners manual for the dealer to record the serial number when it gets replaced, so appearantly they knew they werent gonna last.

i dont care if i cant afford it or not. id be bitching up a storm if i bought that car and planned on driving it at a track or strip and had to deal with all that hassle. there r other cars out there. time to go back to the drawing board.

And I don’t know of other cars that put a feature as a selling point in the car, but if you actually use that feature, you void the warranty.

Yes, repairs on real “supercars” (we all like putting that term in quotes?) will be expensive. But they don’t happen as often or as predicted as this POS.

I too would stick with a vette. Hands down.

Well put. Why use a feature as a selling point …when the minute you use it you void the warranty. Fact is the GTR rips and performs well at everything…except when it comes to holding up when it is driven how it is meant to be. So in my eyes (and most other people), that “flaw” is too much to overlook.

The line between “high performance” and “super cars” is somewhat blurred these days. The Viper was to be a cheap super car, something to compete with the vette. Yet a Vette is much more commonly seen and driven than a Viper. What about the NSX? Another blur like the GTR, a V6 powered high performace car. I have always thought of cars like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, and Lotus as so-called super cars. The kind of cars that are out on the weekends and are rarely daily drivers. I think this is what Nissan was aiming for with the GTR. An elite car that was used by guys who drive a Benz as a DD.

um i never considered the NSX a supercar, i dont think many ppl have.
