anyone have any experience with the h2b swaps around here? Im getting a freshly rebuilt h22a out of a 97 prelude with type s pistons and eagle rods for a steal and i also have hondata s300 an his ecu…i have a few questions with this swap but need to know if anyone has done this…i still need tranny which i think i found and axles h2b kit etc…but if anyone has any tips let a brother know
I know PoisonousBeef has one and showtime has one in a eg. I beleive gearhead knows alot about them also.
H2B IS FAWKIN AWESOME , I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS it saves you money also so that you dont have to chop and kill your metal in your car and you keep your linkage and your tranny mounts
yea thats i what i hear…I wanted to do a k20a2 swap but after weighing price and hp you really cant beat it…and i want a decent all motor car so i think this is the way im going to go…
i have never heard anyone on this forum talking about it so it is good to hear i can get some help if i need it…
I have done plenty of swap before but none with h22 in ek keeping obd2>>i have done h22 in 96 accord and couple ls swaps in egs but this looks a little more involved>>but im sure it wont be a problem after reading tech articles on h-t…but nothing is about keeping obd2 all is more towards obd1 conv harness and chipped p28…but i will need to get mounts b/c i gotta d-series in it now(98 hatch D16y7) so i will need the kit with mounts and tranny plate…but i deff am liking what i see about the h2b swap
For the money you spend on going H2B, you could do dozens of other things. I will never do an h2b swap. I think its stupid, i think its all hype. I’ve done a number of h22 swaps, including PoisonusBeef’s and showtimes.
The worst thing about the stock H setup is axle bind, depending on what mount kit and axle combination you run and how low you are, you may or may not have it.
Even then, I’ve never broken an axle, never had shifting or other transmission problems.
On top of that the H2B tilts the engine forward at an unnatural angle, creating weight to be moved forward and oil draining problems in the motor. You’ll have hood clearance issues… and not to mention it just looks uncomfortable in the engine bay. I am definitly bias and will remain that way
Neither showtime nor I are running H2B. The only issue does seem to be axle bind in very hard corning. For the price of an H2B kit you could buy the correct custom axles.
yeah i had the replace an axle a week deal with my accord and i dont want that again…but i fode a fix for the oil draining problem and i like the b tranny alot over the h tranny…the hood only needs couple washers and since i need a tranny mounts axles i thought i may give h2b a try…and it seems like b trannys are easier to come by. My hatch is pretty low so i know if i dont do h2b i will eat axles…and i dont want to raise the car up so im still not sure what i want to do
what ecu are you guys running chipped p28?
my bad.i read the op thread wrong.
Noone has one i guess around this nec of the woods…guess ill have to test it out and let you guys know
I am running a chipped P28, not sure about showtime. We are still experimenting a little with axle combinations. Only the driver’s side has any problems - I’ve replaced it once after 6k miles on the first one, which I believe was way wrong. I’m still considering a “custom” one for that side since they aren’t all THAT expensive.
showtime has a chipped p28 as well… though none of our maps interchange, who knows.
vovlodoc, have you actually been in a full h22 swapped civic? what do you have to compare the h2b to?
yes i have been in 2 h22 egs and 1 ek…with full h22 swaps and they ran good they where a little hard to move around in parking lots being none of them had power steering but i only drove one eg once with the h22 and drove the ek with the h22 a few dozen times i went to a meet in n.c when i was visiting my dad and a a kid had one there and let me drive it and i have to say it def felt like a diff car…it seem to shift way better at high rpms and gear ratio just seemed better…i wish i couldve had both side by side to see the diff, but he said he pulls his buddy with full h22 by 2 cars and they are both all stock exp header intake and exhaust and the h2b kid had type r tranny with lsd only diff but he said he pulled him 1 car in 2nd 1 in 3rd gear…i was hoping someone around he would have one so i could compare again before i buy all the stuff
well, hopefully it works out. I’ll continue my hatred tward h2b :tounge:
hahaha…yeah i hope so if it does i will make sure to come by the shop and let you see what you think…
but i mean you can use stock mounts linkage no hacking the floor
so im still not sure what im going to do but i like doing something different with everyproject so if it sucks at least now i know
ould be able to do whole swap for about 2K so price wise if it works i will be very happy
are you guys running stock intake mani? im getting skunk2 also with it and i dont think it will fit
well after speaking to my buddy im buying the motor and s300 off of he did the obd1 conv with a p28 with s300…so i will also be going obd1!!!
What kind of header and exhaust are you guys running with the h22?
I’ll be interested to see how the H2b comes out if you do it. Maybe we can set something up next season and get lined up at a track.
Let me give a huge thumbs down to the Skunk2 manifold on an internally stock N/A H22. If you do some research it is one of the absolute worst as far as the typical “you lose across the powerband but gain a little topend.” Everything I have ever seen about it, ever, is negative unless you are turbo or have cams. There were a couple of dyno sheets floating around but I can’t find them now. I have yet to see one single person with a dyno sheet show a positive impact from that mani on a stock H22. No personal experience so take this as you will, just what I found when I spent a couple weeks talking to people about it.
I think we both have Megan/T-Pros headers, and we have custom exhaust. He has what I believe is a single Hushpower muffler and I have 2 inline Magnaflow rounds.
Glad to see another H22 going in an EK. :boink Good luck with the swap!
yeah i am getting cams but not right off…so maybe ill keep the intake mani for later…thanks for the help im hoping the h22 with type s pistons and eagle rods hold up. which im sure it will the builder is very very well respected around the local drag racers so it should be ok…im prolly later on get cams and maybe some nitrous
we will def have to get together sometime and def get lined up at the track since we are going to have the same car and see the diff…is your motor stock internally?did you remove the butterflys from the intake? I ALSO know a guy with a euro r mani so i may pick it up
i’d rock a euro r mani… if i keep my ferio (not)
any reason your going rods with type s pistons? I’d think about mahle to bump the compression a little more. make sure he gram matches everything and i’d definitely pull the balance shafts out of it and balance it. Granted i spin my h22 to 9500 on occasion, but i say do it once, do it right.
they motor already has the pistons and rods…and yes i willl remove balance shafts it doesnt look to bad to do…i will have to get some info from the builder and see what he did i know he balanced the rotating ass i think but i need to verify that…ive seen some noticable gains from the euro mani on serveral h22s on h-t…over the stocker but like i said im going to get the swap running first then worry about more power gains…did you remove the shafts on your h22 builds?
im also the same way i only like to do things once …THE RIGHT WAY!!!
I am only here to hate on H series motors.
B series > all
What about f-series
