hacked Dish

i used to have a burned dish card but have no idea where to get one now. I got a dish network dish on the house now that the previous people left behind. Do i need to buy service then get the card burned or do i just buy a reciever and it will work.

FTA receiver

i have an old direct tv reciever will that work?

so the FTA recievers are just plug in play or does it still need programing

And you made fun of skylinez for his dvd question. :picard:

you program them with a computer, through a cable or flash drive.
ftatalk.com

He wanted to know why his HD DVD wont play HD in his regular DVD player and i didnt make fun of him

Plug and play Jay. You can do the software updates on the receiver with a laptop.

EDIT: Joe beat me to it.

Nothing is just plug and play free TV anymore, at least not like the old days of having someone program a card for you and it working for a year or more. If you’re looking to do it just beause you’re too cheap to pay for TV you’re going to be very disappointed. It’s pretty much just the hobbiest now and you’re going to need to do a lot of reading and tweaking to keep it running 24/7.

yeah i remember just buying a card and when it got flashed taking it to someone to burn it again and it was up and running agian. So with the FTA when you lose signal you gotta wait for an update to load to the reciever? Do they even do cards anymore like if i get dish network programing and use there card for normal viewing on a basic plan and just swap in a burned card if i wanna watch PPV

Won’t work that way. You would need to have a Dish Network receiver and account and a FTA receiver. You could unplug the sat feed from one box and swap it to the other box though. Or if I hook you up, I could run you two feeds from the dish.

You can get a basic dish network plan and then plug in the FTA box in place of an existing receiver whenever you want to watch something special… it goes down every couple weeks and the fix usually takes 24-48 hours to post up. I would get one with DVR and accumulate crap for when you’re down.

that was not his question at all. thats beside the point though, reading>you.
