+2 for Beretta PX4 storm. I have it in a .40 but it comes in a 9mm also IIRC. Smooth.
The .40 is a tough round to beat, good performance, okay price, higher mag capacity frame-for-frame than the ACP, more oomph than the Parabellum. If your woods contain bears and your kids are often in them, I’d start with the .40 and get a .22LR pistol for the plinking route, as they’re cheap and money isn’t a concern for you.
Cant go wrong with any of them imo. I went with my xdm for the 17 round capacity with a .40 bullet.
It always seems 9mm is what is on sale though. sigh.
I LOVE my kahr pm 40, downside is 5 rd magazine. Upside is i can pocket carry a .40
HA, love that video. I would have liked proof that it fired before it blew it up though.
i have a question about NYS and there rules with c&r handguns. is a permit still needed to own one? i am starting the process of my permit and was wondering if there is a way for me to own a handgun now if it was c&r. i own a few relic long guns alrdy and love the history behind some on them.
Ya that was on thing I wish he did was shoot it after each part. The guy is bad ass and a crazy sick shot too. He had a few long range shots and some awesome accuracy ones with some rapid fire guns which anyone who has shot a full auto knows it is not as easy as it looks in a video game.
I believe if they still make ammo for it, you need a permit.
it still blows my mind how states differ with gun laws. In Arizona, if you are a U.S citizen with no felonies on your record (or D.V) you can walk in to a gun store, buy a kimber 1911, fill it with hallowpoints, shove it in your waist band and walk out… and it’s 100% legal.
Tyler… How far are you from scottsdale?
I could be wrong, but my understanding was that for us regular citizens (not police, not c.o.'s, etc.) you need a permit in order to even touch a handgun in NYS (don’t get me started on government overreach) . Again, it’s my understanding that its is a major violation to handle any handgun in NYS without a permit.
My question would be, if you have a permit, and have at least one gun listed, are you then allowed to have and handle other historical pieces that are not intended to be shot that don’t have to be listed on the permit?
I live in WA now… I nvevr changed my profile on here…but I was like 2 hours away when I was in AZ
Don’t waste your money on a 40. It is more expensive to shoot, it has more recoil, it is louder, and the gain over modern 9mm hollow points is very minimal.
Watch some videos and learn a proper pistol grip.
Then go to a gun store and handle as many full size 9mm’s as you can. Like a good pair of shoes you will know when you find a pistol that fits your hand.
When you find the one that fits you buy it.
Don’t worry about brand names, when it comes to the big names most are all quality guns (avoid polymer Taurus pistols).
M&P’s fit most people with smaller hands and are very very easy to shoot
Glock Gen 4’s come in with a bit bigger and different shaped grip but if it feels good off the bat buy it
I am not a HUGE xd fan due to where they are made but they do have a good reputation
Some rugers are good but they all have a thumb safety (poly pistols should NOT have “extra” safety’s)
FN makes some good guns and the new striker fired model is due out before you get your permit back
The absolute worst thing you can do is buy a small gun in a larger caliber for a first gun, you will have a much harder learning curve and you will develop bad habits.
I have fit many many people for a first pistol, and more often than not the proper one is not the one their buddies told them to get. Women are much much easier to fit as they listen when you tell them the proper way to hold the gun and are much more likely to voice a truthful opinion on how the gun fits them.
Again learn the proper grip then go hit the stores.
Have fun and find what fits you!
buy a full size glock 9mm. cheap to shoot, not much recoil… and you’ll learn proper form…like not slamming the trigger
Yes, G19 is a great choice… as is an xd/xdm. (very similar)
Come on jan 2013(seeing I’m in buffalo and turned my permit app in in jan.) can’t wait to buy a 9mm glock

Scary thought… I wonder how myself and the rest of the CCW guys on this site would react in this situation.
I wont lie, i bet I panic and freeze up. to be honest, i think of it more often when I’m going to a bank, walmart, a liquor store, etc etc. I think in a classroom setting, i’d shit.

duck and cover, and if you’re the teacher, don’t be a dick…
“…I’m not going to lie…I’m pretty sure we just blew the glock up” …lol
