1 for the OS, 1 for all your mp3s, movies, etc… that way you can wipe the OS and reinstall and you dont have to worry about all your files being backed up…

C: = 17.9 gb 10,000 RPM Ultra-160 SCSI system drive.
E, F, & G = 200 gb (each) 7200 RPM IDE storage drives.
Plus 2 external 120 gb FireWire / USB 2.0 drives for more storage.
I generally do 2 partitions seperating OS/programs from everything else… you learn this after windows takes a crap on you for the 4th time in about a 10 week period…
