Hard Drive Install

Ok stupid question. I just got a new hard drive. This is my first time doing stuff like this.

Should I partition it? Will it really matter?

I know its a good idea, but i don’t know how much space to use and so forth.

I really need my computer running now.

please help

… how big is it?

I wouldnt partition a 4GB HD…

not even sure if you can buy a NEW 4GB HD but you get the point…

300 GB

i will NEVER use all that space on this computer

f partitions. they only help you organize. if you want um you can always add them… make sure your board can support a 300 gig drive… .

It came with a 250 GB Maxtor drive, but it took a crap. I looked into it and it should support 300 GB.

I don’t think I’m going to partition it, but I just want to make sure it will be ok. I don’t really no what I’m doing.

All done. Thanks for the info.

I woulda partitioned…

1 for the OS, 1 for all your mp3s, movies, etc… that way you can wipe the OS and reinstall and you dont have to worry about all your files being backed up…

:word: I usually do one for the OS and programs, one for my personnal stuff (documents and other sensitive data) and one for everything else, as Funky said.

I use whole [b]physical[b] drives like that.

C: = 17.9 gb 10,000 RPM Ultra-160 SCSI system drive.
E, F, & G = 200 gb (each) 7200 RPM IDE storage drives.
Plus 2 external 120 gb FireWire / USB 2.0 drives for more storage.

^ that is alot of porn! geeez.

I generally do 2 partitions seperating OS/programs from everything else… you learn this after windows takes a crap on you for the 4th time in about a 10 week period…

hmmm… well i can still do it afterwards, correct? im just glad to have a computer right now

:word:

C: (15gb)OS & program files
D: (80gb)mp3, divx, and general downloads
G: (80gb)formatted & blank

Yep, You can do it later. I have my OS partitioned on the fileserver pc. Never got around to it on the general use one… :frowning:

:word: to partitions…

20G for XP… the other 120 for games
