the differences as i understand them
carb cleaner has oil init for the shafts
fuel injection version of carb cleaner has less oil in it
brake cleaner is basicly the same shit … but with NO oil in it
if you want to clean carbon out of the cylinders , fire up the car slowly dump a 2L of water into the TB … the difference in exhaust cloud will signal you when all the carbon is gone
my old fiero needed 8L of water every 2 weeks… EIGHT LITERS!
as for cleaning the intake sytem…sometimes its best to yank the throttle body off and start by claning the manifold by hand
ill eventualy wind up doing this on the boosted eclipse because the shape of the manifold allows crap to pool in the plenum , theres all sorts of oil from the pcv and carbon from the egr laying on the plenum floor … nothing i want to attemtp to send into the engine
instead ill pull the TB and whipe out as much as i can with a rag , plug the runners in the plenum w/ rags then use carb cleaner to wash down the plenum walls and soak the mess up with rags again
reinstall everything , then run the car, crack the throttle and run another 1/2 car thu the motor to clean the runners out too
