I’ve tried to wait until I get an engine swap (want to get my own place before swapping, seeing how a house is more important than a car), but my existing exhaust is starting to wear heavily (I bought it 2 years ago) and it’s louder and rattles heavily (the heat shield was removed). Trying to hide it by changing my shifting & throttle style no longer helps.
In the summer when most people roll down their windows and hit on girls, I roll mine up in embarrassment
I have 2 questions that I’d like to have answers for (opinions will also be appreciated. If the questions sound stupid, sorry, because I’m guilty of being a rookie in the “tuner” field.
Would an exhaust specifically for an SR powered car work efficiently with my KA engine (or at least work normally) performance wise. I heard the differences are in chassis, not engine. Is that true?
What’s a recommended exhaust for a SR20DET that is both good performance wise (One that may help throughout the whole RPM range would be ideal since I hope to do some road racing of some kind (track mind you). I’d also like the exhaust to be less noisier than other aftermarket exhaust and if it must be noisy, a lower grunt would be preferred (Not a fan of the high pitched and/or fart pipes that some people have). I hope I’m not asking to much
Sorry for the long post, but I’m hoping to get this done this weekend. Thanks in advance.
Running 3 inch exhause on an NA will certainly lose some back pressure and slow down your car. But if you’re going to swap in the future anyway, it doesn’t really matters. Many people are selling used exhaust on the forum. I’m currently running the Apexi N1, it sounds deep and nice. And you can quiet it down with a silencer.
APEXi N1 seems to be a popular choice for most Japanese cars in general, but I’ve noticed that the Nico boards are obsessed with BRM exhausts. It sound nice from a video clip I saw.
Is this probably because BRM sponsors Nico? Or do they really make amazing exhausts.
Oh yeah, one last question. I noticed some exhausts have a bulkier OEM style muffler, while the N1 has a slimmer, smaller muffler. Does that still count as an OEM muffler. I ask because I’m not to sure what a straight pipe is and I’m worried that a lot of the catbacks may be straight pipe exhausts. As much as I want performance, I don’t want the police tickets that tend to come with them :S
lol a straight pipe is no muffler or catalyitic converter, it goes as straight as possible from the header back. hence the name straight pipe. on any n/a engine (thats what the ka is lol) it is loud as hell, turbo motors (the sr) are still oud but a lot less than the ka’s. About the OEM thing… not really sure what you mean, OEM stands for Original Equipment from Manufacturer (i think thats right lol) anything other than factory sin’t oem. try to re word that question.
