header install -specV

am i retarded or is there a trick or detail i overlooked
i cannot access the one bolt for manifold removal, as the alternator is in the way. how do i remove the alternator, as i couldn’t see the tensioner pulley to release belt pressure

how hard should this be, i have installed headers before and am not mechanically illiterate -maybe that white bus was the one for me :?

also if i use the oxygen sensor location at the collector(instead of just cyl#4) will it trip the Check light

The tentioner is on the bottom. You will have to access it from the bottom.
Here is a step by step write up…

Yeah…once you take the belt tension off it, the install is cake. You don’t actually have to completely remove the alternator when you go to take it off either, just twist it to the passenger side with the pulley facing the front of the car. When you are done, just slide it back into place and slap the belt back on!

do you really need to ppl to install the header as thevboard how to recomends?

I did it 100% by myself, so no, you sure don’t.

Make sure you get yourself a large (24" or bigger) breaker bar to break the header bolts loose if you don’t have air tools. A breaker bar is just a straight bar with a swivel head and a 1/2" chuck on the end to accept sockets.

or the “Best Damn Tool” for those who use it a lot…

I did it with a buddie so he could remove the top O2 sensor. Then I blamed the re threading of it on him. :E

cool ill have to go get a breaker bar then thanks.

You’ll also need an 22mm open end wrench to get off the primary 02 sensor. Make it

easier on yourself by removing it AFTER you take the header off. Some people have had

a hard time getting it off, and others, like myself, had no problems. Good Luck hope you

can get it done.

did ok ;
but now i think it has a little leak under full throttle, i’lll just retighten the flange at the bottom

=the trick is this is my first car with a single belt system, so i didn’t know how to ‘work’ it. after that i did ok , and i know what a breaker bar is , i use a 3ft tube 8)

only took a little while, service engine light came on … how to reset that will be next question

That was info nick posted. Very easy to do. You will need a Gheto Sim or a O2 Sim toget rid of the SESlight.

I have air tools, so if someone wants to do this at my place…

how do i stop this from happening,
who sells O2 spacer ? as i do want to know about whats malfunctioning still

Here is info on how to make your own.

Also sjk625 & Markspecv on the Vboard sell them for $10

ok , i got the spacer and the SES light still came on. does it matter which location you use for the O2 sensor? on my header one is right at the first bend on cyl3, and one is at the collector for all 4.

originally i was on the collector, then spacer on #3. like i said both locations make the SES come on

The spacer is suppose to be on the 2nd O2 bung, not the first.

Yeah it should go on the 2nd O2 snesor. The one on the down pipe. You will have to resest the SES light after you install it. If you need a hand let me know… I’d be glad to help.

now i’m just pissed!
i put the o2 with the spacer in the lower location on the header. and within 50km the SES light came on again. W T F ?

What code are you getting from the SES light?
