Headliner replacement...

I’m looking to restore the interior in my car (1987)… The headliner is falling down and just crappy in general, coloring gone to shit, etc… I’d like to replace that cloth with new stuff. Where’s a place that sells that type of thing? It seems to be VERY thin and sticky on one side. Do they sell that type of shit at joan fabrics? Or what? I don’t live in NY so a local shop that sells it won’t do me any good, prefer a big chain that would be out here in ohio too.

Just go to a fabric store like Joann fabrics and get the material that you want. Than, go to a hardware store and get a can of 3m spray adhesive. It’s real easy to replace.

joann sells headliner material in different colors, i got one for the gn there, matched perfect, dont use 3m spray tho, it doesnt hold really well, dap sells a adheseve that gets rolled on, and holds 10000000 times better than the spray stuff. I learned the hard way by using 3m spray the first time.

1987 what?

I’ll have to make a trip to joann fabric. I figured I could just use regular cloth to my liking but I wasn’t sure if they had rolls of cloth that was pre-sticky on one side or if I’d need my own adhesive of sorts. It won’t be hard to cut my own and put it in that’s for sure, thanks for the info guys.

Wow, and to think I was about to post up the same question for my turbo dodge. Definatly saved me some effort, and was quite helpful.

As for the headliner adhesive though, any place to pick it up locally? And how do you keep it from going through the fabric/keep the fabric from wrinkling when applying it?

its dap contact cement, any store should carry it.

thats what i did to my car and it came out great
