For the parts in the groupbuy section, excluding RaceonUSA parts. Let me know what you need, electronics, exhuasts, bars, etc. I’m picking up myself a new clutch. Any suggestions? I think I’m going to go 6 puck!
I’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices for my HP levels:
ACT 6 puck, NS1-HDR6
and
Exedy Stage 2, which is 3 puck, normal thickness (thick type)
Both are cerametalic. Exedy costs $100 more, and has springs on the disk to reduce drivetrain damage. The ACT ones with the springs has not been released yet.
What do you guys think
Blitz single plate
Clutchmasters Stg III or IV.
Depending on your hp/torque goals.
I dont know your setup but if you are going to do any type of street driving then I would highly recommend going with a sprung clutch. On/off-ish style clutches really suck in TO/traffic and these days there really is no need for that style of clutch when sprung units hold so much hp.
What are the costs of the clutches that you are interested in? Im looking for a clutch for my SR.
I’m in the market for a clutch as well. Something that will eventually have to work with 300 ft.lbs. and still be reasonable on the street while commuting. Reviews? Recommendations?
I am going to be looking for a new clutch over the winter months for my project, anyone want to take on a group buy and help us all out?
I’m looking for a Stage IV myself. I have high goals!
My NISMO clutch was the greatest thing ever.
I miss it so much, pick one up you wont regret it.
i only get ACT and Exedy clutches thru my dealer… that’s why I’m only considering these 2 brands.
I’ll open a GB once I get some prices.
I know I got someone an Exedy clutch stage 2 from here. Can you comment? I don’t remember who it was.
I have cheep internet (plain basic, no frills dial-up) so I can’t get on some websites, I was wondering when you post the prices for the Exedy and ACT clutches that you could also post the clamping force for the stages.
thanks,
pATricK
it was me. though i cant comment yet as i have yet to drive on it  . will be running this week though so i’ll let you know how it is.
i got the clamping forces on the PDF files but on my other computer. Both are in different scales, I don’t know how to convert between them. One is in foot pounds. Got to check the other.
I based my decision on this:
Exedy stage 2 is around 80% increase over stock,
ACT with the regular pressure plate is 50% increase, and ACT with the extreme plate is 85% over stock.
I think the Exedy stage 2 is what I’m getting, as I don’t think that I will need a really big left foot to drive the car, you know what i’m saying. (pedal effort) Dont want to stall on a red light you know i’m saying, plus I’m getting old
I drove an ACT stage 3 before and it was really, really heavy. I think it was unsprung. The new ACT ones are sprung, but not released yet. The exedy is also sprung.
i can tell you pedal feel on the exedy is very nice and not too stiff.
Alex, I know you got the hardcore thin type that has the same effect as a lightened flywheel  For those who didn’t know Exedy stage 2 came in 2 thickness.
I’m opting for the thick type as I want it to be more street friendly plus have more life out of it.
On exedy’s catalogue… thin type is listed as track only, while the thick type is for street/track.
I would probably have ordered mine before you get to drive on yours, but do post feedback here and let other members know how you like it.
From their catalogues:
Exedy Stage 1 1760 lbs, TBA increase over stock. (I assume 80%) Part # 6803B
Exedy stage 2 1760 lbs, 80% increase over stock. Part # 6950B
ACT Street disk, 362 ft-lbs, 50% increase over stock. Part #NS1-HDSS
ACT Street disk + extreme pressure plate, 449 ft-lbs, 86% increase over stock. Part #NS1-XTSS
ACT 4/6 puck 463 ft-lbs, 50% increase over stock. Part #NS1-HDR4/6
ACT 4/6 puck + extreme pressure plate 576 ft-lbs, 86% increase over stock. Part #NS1-HDR4/6
Do note that I can get KA clutches as well.
Does this help?
Yes, it does, thank you, but are there any others stages? 80% is not enough… I figured that to be good for ~ 360hp… is that right? I am going to need more then that.
80% is increase in clamping force, not increase in grip. Exedy stage 2 and the ACT 4/6 puck ones can handle that. And check the GB section, I’ll have some prices in a few minutes when I make a post.
And I can get centreforce as well, and will post prices if anyone is interested.
To compare XDSS from ACT and Exedy stage 2
Drivability: Both are sprung, no problems.
Clamping force rated by manufacture: About the same. ACT is however known to rate their clutches lower. ACT wins.
Material: ACT: Organic, Exedy: Cerametallic.
Cerametallic grips more.
Design: ACT: Disc type, Exedy: Puck type.
Puck type grips more.
Not to mention that it is 3 puck: The less the more grip and less drivability.
3>4>6 puck
But because the Exedy is sprung, it will be real easy to drive.
I’m getting the Exedy for these reasons.
I’ve seen the GB, but I was wondering …
The 3 or 4 puck Exedy, will this be able to handle and not slip with high HP and tq?
I will be needing a good clutch when the motor set gets put together this winter. I will be down for a GB in about 3 months or so… I’d like to get this and some other items in the off season, when hopefully the cost is a little lower.
