Help, Cant hook on ET Streets

between a 273 and a 327 theres should be about a 400 to 500 rpm difference

yep thats about what i seen… seat of the pants feelin isnt all that much tho. only noticeable difference was from 45 rolls, it feels alot better than before. it definately helped abit, but on average, i think i only gained maybe a tenth. i didnt run the car all that much on the old 2.77 gears, but my best time was 13.89 at 97 on those gears on street tires with 1.89 60. 3.27 best was 1.88 60 but i ran 13.99 on that run for some reason. on a 1.93 60, i ran a 13.88 but i iced the manifold on that run… never did with the 2.77’s.

so the difference in performance was marginal. my traps did go up tho abit with the 3.27’s. but traps are pooop when the ET aint there with it

Are the tires pulling the motor down at launch?

you mean like boggin/loss in rpms? nope. the car is strong in first gear…but dies after that as 2nd gear ratio is tall and then third comes with the help of TPI’s weak topend

thanks for the input everyone. i know my car is geared down now, but i still should beat my street tire 60 times. even if the tires make me 3.08 gears, i should be running better than the 2.77s i used to have.

i’m gonna try different suspension setup next time and have it flash more than before. also gonna try to do a bit longer burnout than before and see if it helps. i should dead hook on 15-16psi. L98’s arent that strong to be spinnin et streets. i hope they prep better too

and nitrous on my motor would be cool, i’d love to have it, but i doubt very much it would hold it for very long… the motor could used a good refreshening

quik jr? all:blah: :blah: :blah: the tecnicle mumbo jumbo makes my head hurt.

hahaha, i like talkin about all the stuff involved

youre autocross suspension is hurting you like said before, and in your case you dont want a dead hook since you dont have the power, you want slight spin to help propel you forward. stall it to like 1500rpms and let it flash like it needs to. also you ran on a humid night!! running in summer is bad

autoX suspension is not hurting him. if he puts the front shocks on soft setting. my buddy’s mustang cut 1.70 60’s all day with autoX suspension with street tires. 275’s all around just loosin up the front shocks and then off to the track. the only car at the track that can go 12.5’s and then take the bend at the end of the track at 100+ also

well, not sure i mentioned this yet

but my front springs are something like 710 lb/in and the rears are a progressive rate 108-175lb/in. the front end does come up well when shocks are set light but alot of guys use V6 front springs or stock z28 springs which are like 500lb/in. those are recommended it seems from everything i have read. plus with the steering bar brace and 36mm front sway bar and 24mm rear, the car doesnt wanna flex around, and takes turns well… thats not great for drag racing. i had the front sway off and it does flex more, but that steering brace might need to come off for me to really feel the difference. might help me, it might not.

i might go back up this wednesday to see if any of the changes i do helps. i also was thinkin of pickin up some old stock rear springs and puttin those in to see if they help rear traction. i sold my old stock stuff…they were saggin tho. i guess i’ll see what happens

are 4th gen adaptable?

4th gen rear springs should work well indeed. shocks/springs/swaybars/lca’s/panhard bar, pretty much rear suspension from third to 4th gen is the same

get some bangers off brian

On my 91 formula with a pro-kit and koni adjustables, I got the best traction with the front shock set to the stiffest setting, and the rear shocks set to the softest setting. That should allow the most weight transfer to the rear tires.

If you do get some rear springs, try and get six cylinder springs, as they will have the softest rate.

well i’m gonna try it again this wednesday probly… just to see if i can get good 60’s. the car hasnt been runnin right… few header gasket leaks that i messed with today and the car runs very hot… i need new waterpump/fanswitches/rad probly to really keep her cool

hope the weather holds

yes way to go, beat on it if not up to top par

yeah if it doesnt feel good to me, i’m not gonna run it. the only problems now are the y pipe/header flange touches the front a arm and makes a nasty noise. and i still have a slight oil leak. i think i need to replace the intake gasket and the oil pressure sensor/oil sending unit or w/e it is.

damn rain is not lettin me get things done
