I don’t think there’s any correlation between imported cars and street racing.
The 15 year rule I believe stems from the insurance legislation here in Canada, where if the vehicle is more than 15 years old it does not require comprehensive coverage.
However…the 25 year old rule is just stupid. The easiest way to combat this amendment is not even from the stance of the modified scene, but rather environmental. Allow me to explain. Studies have already shown that present day vehicles produce very low emissions and are likely not the suspects for today’s increase in vehicle produced emissions. In fact research has now indicated that it is the older vehicles, the ones older than 10-15 years that produce more carbons than any new vehicle produced. In fact, environment canada has been looking for ways to get these old vehicles off the road and promote the sales of new vehicles by dropping APR, GST etc.
So if Transport Canada wants to change their amendment, they are directly countering the effort of what the federal government is doing.

I’m actually surprised that Transport Canada would even consider this proposal. I’m expecting heavy resistance to this amendment not just in the form of free trade, or the import tuners right, but from many other sources.
Good point. I hope it gets used to combat this 25 year legislation being put forth. It’s a generally understanable correlation too, that the older a car is, the less advanced it’s emmissions equipment is.
Thanks for the informative post
